I have seen mexicans towing 15-20 tacos down the highway intermittently the past couple of years. I figure they find a stockpile and get them all and drive them back to Texas or what not. Thoughts?

i travel between texas and arizona alot and i see them all along I10.. i used to travel between sierra vista and phoenix every other weekend and on my way back south i'd always pass 2 or 3 of these caravans.. it was always 4 trucks.. 2 being driven, 2 being towed.. and they would be packed to the gills.. plywood sides on the beds stacked up over the top

I surf in Nicaragua and Mexico a lot and it seems to me that all of our wrecked or unwanted TAcomas end up down there

I work south Texas a lot and Mexicans (big M) haul many, many vehicles of all kinds to Mexico. It is a constant stream. Mostly worn out old crappy vehicles. Usually one vehicle in tow. They make a living doing this by reselling. Never seen a train of yotas but nothing would surprise me. I occasionally see a Tacoma but generally older trucks with damage. Mostly I see minivans.

A friend of mine said the first gen taco commands a premium especially a 4wd model. He lived down in Mexico and in Central America and said people pay cash money 20-25k for the really nice ones. I have a 2002 with only 100k and that's how much he said I would get.

Maybe 25,000 pesos. Unless they're getting around high importation tarrifs or some other market distortion, it's unlikely that they sell for a huge premium. It is likely that vehicles that are cheap in the USA due to needing repairs at $75/hour shop rates are worth more in a country with very cheap labor. Also a lot of those exported vehicles are stolen, have salvage titles, or are otherwise not worth much in the US because of their legal status.

I have seem 'em heading south here in AZ... seems to me there would be a pretty good market for them down there. I sometimes wonder about my old '96 Taco I traded in... pretty sure it's running druglord duty down there with gold plate rims and a 50 cal mounted in the bed.
