Anyone purchase a supercharger with high mileage on their Tacoma?

Been thinking real hard about a TRD Supercharger...... Just not sure how well it will act with a engine with 170k. Never had any issues with my engine, it's perfectly maintained. might get my engine re built just for safety. Any idea's or reviews?

Don't know if I would drop that much cash into a truck with such high mileage...

 

eh depends. id rather keep my truck forever than go back to a truck payment.

 

It a depends on how well maintained the motor was and what condition its in now. May wanna get a compression test done and a tune up if u are skeptical about it but it shouldnt be a problem with running the sc at all if the motor is still strong. Run low boost, maybe 5-6lbs and get a good tune. Should be just as good as any other sc motor out there

 

I agree, but the cost of the supercharger and rebuilding the engine would likely render the difference in trading up...plus you would have a better return on investment with better resale and length of time he could drive it.

170K miles on a Toyota engine is nothing. If you want to feel really good about it get some oil analysis. They are a very good indicator of your internals. In all the Toyota's I have had I have over a million miles with zero engine problems. I have over 500K of toyota engine miles sitting in my driveway right now.

 

Thanks guys, I'm gonna get my engine inspected and an oil analysis. Probably have it pulled and rent a car for a few weeks, I'll have it fully rebuilt and bored out and save up for the SC.

All I'm saying is that although the engines in these things last forever, other things start to go. General maintainance involves more work on an older truck than a newer one. Even though you could get the engine rebuilt and overhaul everything, at what point is it cheaper/smarter to get the new one over revamping the old one the be that good again...

 

Are you wanting to put a SC on it because you're working it hard and the stock motor isn't getting it done to suit you or do you want to Supercharge your truck for the same reason/s most of us did, to just have that extra snort when we want it and mostly for the fun of it???

If you're doing because you "need" the extra power, I'd say save your money and buy a bigger truck. If you just want to put a SC on it for the fun of it, I'd say go for it.

These TRD SuperCharger kits are soooo conservative I doubt it would hurt a thing. That is as long as there are no current issues with the motor.

Personally speaking, I would have a really hard time spending that kind of coin on a vehicle with 170,000 miles but it's YOUR money, spend it however YOU want.

 

This, at the end of the day, you gotta be happy...just throwing in my personal outlook...

 

I would just throw the sc on it now. If anything bad happens then I would worry about rebuilding the engine.

 

on my 05 I had 140,000 miles on it before I slapped a TRD SC on it....no problems with it

 

Sounds good thanks for the info! I want the cab most of all. If I have too, ill buy a new frame and have the front and rear end reinforced and mildly rebuilt. I'd try to fit some sort of V8 or small block 350 and fine a new tranny and axles. I wanna SAS this thing. Might do the engine and tranny work first.

 

boost it till it breaks man. then get another taco and slap the SC on it and start over again (i guess u could get a 4runner or FJ that has the 4.0 and it would be a pretty easy transfer) or better yet boost it till it breaks, sell the SC and do a D4d conversion.

 

I would love the D4d. I guess my passion for my taco is more of an unbreakable shell

 

At the very least do a compression test or leakdown test to verify the condition of your cylinder heads.

Still remember... you're not making enough horsepower if you're not break parts.
