I hope it never comes to this. I see my defense more than my just walking around guns. My defense guns help me keep my hunting guns.

    Internet bullies!!!!!!

If you can justify your actions and no harm came then its fine. If harm came and you justify explain your actions then that is your choice. Laws in the states are def different then canada but I would have done the same.

It is amazing that some of them can read. This one shot loser probably has past history with Cujo as they dry humped the same leg.

If I have a snarling, snapping, barking dog coming at me, I'm NOT gonna try and make nice with the dog. I'll be looking for a weapon to protect myself. There is a difference between a "just barking" dog and a "mad, mean" barking dog.

Common sense and the need to protect himself and his wife. If I ran, rode in an area like that, I'd carry as well.

Tell me you are kidding.. A mad/mean dog isn't going to respond to "come here good doggie and let me rub your belly".

    ^^ this

It only takes a split second for the dog to lunge and sink his teeth into an arm/leg. If I felt threatened, I'd have my gun out, too. If he hadn't had his gun drawn or if the owner was slower, things could have turned out much differently.

Well, I hope you have the same thing happen to you - you get charged by a dog and see what YOU do. We'll see if you have the same thought afterwards.

OP - I carry HALT - sold in bike stores and on line. Works great for dogs. I have used it on many dogs. Some dogs a quick shot stops them and once a pair of pit bulls, I used most of the can on the pair, but it stops them. ANY unleashed dog that comes up to me, when I'm walking my dogs, gets "shot".

I would have eliminated the dog if it got touched me. I was charged by a pit bull while on a run a few months ago. I drew my G19 from my 5.11 fanny pack, and charged back at the dog while yelling at it. It turned around and ran off. Had the dog come within 5yds of me while barking and snapping, I would have shot it. Wouldn't be the first time, and probably won't be the last

I don't believe I ever said you were in the wrong for your actions, sir. Maybe I did and don't recall it (too lazy to go back through at this point), and I apologize if I did. None the less, I am simply advising you/others to be careful with your actions and consider the repercussions of them because as some1 else has mentioned, people are fucking nuts these days, and it may not always work out how you plan. Its a matter of weighing the potential scenarios, and it really isn't worth your life in exchange for a dog bite, is it? You mentioned you had basically crossed the line into tunnel vision and were no longer aware of the rest of your surroundings...which may or may not could be considered that you were no longer thinking clearly. Also, as has been mentioned, you chose to keep your stride and jog into the situation, when you could have made an attempt to get out of there...and possibly avoid the whole situation all together. Again, I understand you must protect yourself and you did what you felt you had to do to difuse it, and I'm just stating there may or may not have been a better alternative passed up, and offering a different view from an outside party. As I said before, I'm glad it worked out for everybody and you are safe, shit is just too fucking wild these days.

I never post here, but I do sometimes read - and I had to reply to this.

It's not the dog that belonged on a leash that day, it was you. Your self righteous zealous for weapons almost killed someone's best friend, let alone the owner. It sounds like you will eventually kill someone someday, as I have no doubt you've already killed many an animal.

Regardless of what you think - you went looking for that trouble. This is what guns do to people.

Because a properly maintained and carried gun will not simply "go off"
