    http://www.applet-magic.com/eye.htm

So... going back to an earlier post:

Watts - Lumens - Life Expectancy - Bulb
    50------1257-----200 hours--------885, 886,
50------1194-----400 hours--------887. 888 (advertised as a low Voltage design? and expensive)
    38-------942-----200 hours--------893, 894, 896
    38-------754-----200 hours--------898, 899
    27-------540-----300 hours--------880, 881, 889, 890
    18-----264/297---500-1400 hours--921 (OEM)

You are not going to see a visible difference between the 880 series and the 898 series (27/38 watts), likewise, no difference between the two 38w series, but you will likely see a difference between the 880 series and the 893 series lamps (again, 27/38w).

From the 942 lumen 38w lamp to the 1197 and 1257 50w lamps?
I don't think you'd notice the difference unless directly comparing them side by side.
I'm surprised you're not seeing much difference side by side between the 750 and the 1257

Seems that the safest "bang for the buck" are the 38w 893, 894, 896 lamps.

Yes, the easiest and best real value is to pick them up at Home Depot, no cutting, squeeze socket contacts and insert. Takes longer to remove the tail light assy. then anything else. Pulled straight out as instructed and pushed back in the same way. Very easy.

I agree... I was just referring to benefit/risk of lumen output vs too much power draw.

It is interesting that the Home Depot lights are getting 750 lumens from only 30 watts, which is awesome. I'm curious if they aren't actually the same as the 38w lamps, but are derated for 12v vs 14.4?

    30w @ 12v = 2.5a
    2.5a * 14.4v = 36w

    It's possible.

Which bulb did you buy specifically that didn't require any cutting and what was the price?

yes, that was it. In the light section of the store. You can go to their web site with that link, put in your zip, and it will give you what is in stock for a 50 mile radius. Mine listed 5 in stock, there were 4 on the rack. There was one higher, but figured this was just fine. The prongs are thick and fit just perfect.

Ok, I'll give them a shot. They cost a lot more than the al cheapo ones I found but those also burnt out in a couple of days too. These will likely last as long as the stock ones so money well spent.

I'm glad people are choosing the safe route. I'm not saying 50w is dangerous, what do I know? I'm saying spending ~$15 and breaking no bulbs in the process is the bees knees.

1000bulbs.com has a philips 50w 1500 lumen bulb too, should anyone be interested. <$2 per bulb, shipping applies of course - order some extra bulbs for your burnt out above-sink fluorescent light or something to save on shipping costs. 50 hour lifetime sucks, but if you actually hit 50 hours lifetime..for the cost... yea boyeee.

I'm perfectly happy with my 750 lumen 30w Home Depot bulbs. Truth be told, I still can't see that great out of my camper shell with 2x55w halogens on bumper and 2 x 30w Home Depot bulbs. I've already forgotten what it was like stock. Ultimately worse. Ah well. Derptastic.

After putting 894's in my Taco a few weeks ago, last night I put 894's in my wife's Lexus ES350 which also uses the 921 bulb. I thought taking out the Taco lamp assemblies was a chore, try a Lexus - you have to remove 6 pressed-in plastic thingys that are a PITA!

I just did this today with a pair of 885's. Same lamp @50watts, but with a straight plastic plug that gets cut off.

    ... What a difference!

I did this with the 894 series(38w) and did the needle nose pliers method to break the contacts. Worked perfectly. I then added some solder to the contacts for a bit of thickness. The light is definitely better than stock.

Did this today & it worked flawlessly. Cost was about $16 (had some store credit) & install was a snap. 10mm bolts times four (two per side) and a quick tug & the hard part was done. Take out the old bulb, use a pick or small flat head screw driver to bend contacts inward slightly to hold smaller posts & push mew bulb in. Reverse order to reinstall & a quick test & that's that. Much brighter & I trust these FAR more than the el cheapo's I got from Deal Extreme last time. Thanks!

Don't know about the Home Depot bulb but I did the 886 Mod the other night. I'm not too concerned about the extra power draw since my truck has NEVER been in reverse longer than 30 secs at a time. The longest it has ever been in reverse is for the pictures below. I assume that there could be some detrimental effects if left in reverse for too long but I don't know.

I wish I would have taken some before and after pics but all 4 are of the 886

Pictures speak for themselves. Also... these are the aftermarket Anzo Tail Lights

I wouldn't expect the Home Depot bulbs to look like the pictures. I could be wrong though.
