road trip anxiety

Hey guys I'm taking a much needed vacation in a couple of weeks a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas. I'm sailing on Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas which is departing from Cape Canaveral FL. I have decided to drive to the port but I live in NE Arkansas and I am concerned about getting unwanted attention from the highway police along the way. Ill be driving through Mississippi Georgia Alabama and Florida. Mostly night driving. I have very dark tint tinted tails and H.I.D.s , I wanted your opinions. Should I take my Taco to the coast (I really would love to make the drive in my Tacoma, and get great pics) or should I rent a car? Also if anyone's been on this cruise I would love to hear your experiences and tips

you will have no issue with hids in georgia and florida, i travel up and down i95 from my town to miami and my town to atlanta an easy 10 times a year and never have issues with hids in the past few years, tint either, or tinted tails, as i have all of them. your driving at night so just dont do over 10 over, i set it at 79 for the most part and never have an issue

 

just dont speed because GSP will royally fuck you

 

drive your truck, the only police departments that can enforce your states inspection laws are the departments in your state. there are a few things that outside agencies can enforce, but not alot.

 

^ he may know that but i think he may be concerned with just having the hids, tints, etc and the cops having a reason to pull him over and it being a hassle etc

very helpful info, I wasn't aware of that. My main concern was having to pay tint violation tickets in every county I traveled through!

 

yes it is, I95 is the most drug trafficked highway in the US, as it runs the whole east coast.

 

That's not good i can see my all black truck with 3% windows easily being suspected of smuggling drugs.

 

in south georgia (camden county) just north of the florida border usually is, camden county, they hide in between the trees, and then south is usually clear.

atleast thats my observation over the past 3 years, all night time traveling

 

had no issues taking mine down to from OK to miami a couple weeks ago. like the others said...watch out for the georgia highway patrol...that's the only state I've EVER been stopped in (and TWICE) and it was for going 5 over (both times)...both were just before and after the florida border depending on direction of travel.

Being in a truck, especially a tacoma, I find that due to the high degree of male officers out there that I can usually get away with things like dark tint, tinted tails (now removed), and HID headlights because they are fond of the truck. I'm not saying you won't find that dick, but just being in a tacoma, I would breathe a little easier than in another conspicuous vehicle. Just drive normal and you won't have to worry

 

Don't worry about it.... unless you're smuggling drugs. I'm originally from LR-AR and have driven to FL a lot (of course that was in the 80's). Now days I just get stopped in OK everytime I pass through b/c they think since I now have OR plates and doing 75 down I40 I'm runnin'.
IF you get stopped just talk with them, nod your head and listen to what they say; It'll be OK.
Take the Taco and make lotsa pix.

 

Looking at google maps I can avoid Georgia all together by going the entire length of Alabama and its actually about 30miles shorter but less interstate not sure if that's a good trade off.

driving through OK with out of state plates...they figure you're coming down to pick up some drugs...lol

You'll be fine. Just lower your speeds around Ga line and you should be good. I've been on 95 from NJ all the way to South Florida many of times, and 95 in general a lot, with no issues. There is usually someone or many people going 15+ that will draw out the cops.

95 can seem like restrictor plate racing in that you'll get a line of about 5+ cars all going the same speed. Usually 5-10 over. I usually hop in that without ever having an issue.
