^^Fact. Although mine are a little easier to aim, carry concealed, and pull out of the gunvault when glass shatters at 2AM. :)

Up until now, I hadn't realized your sig pic was really you, and that your PAL license was available on the internet. My apologies. You have a nice smile.. you should do it more.

It was a snowy day, and you were wearing your green contacts. No need to be ashamed. I won't judge anyway.

Agreed. I'm willing to make an effort for Oz just for that, he informed me of a replicant I hadn't previously been sure of.

Oh and based on the 20 questions game the Canadian border people always played with me I actually thought firearms were almost completely illegal. Learned something new again..

Our gun laws are likely less restrictive than Californias. (sorry for the side track)

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that this thread has nothing to do with gun ownership in Canada

    Sorry OP

It's possible, although Cali is weird. They will restrict mundane things like SB374 in progress right now that include rimfire .22 rifles and allow a .50 rifle as long as the barrel ID is .499" or less.

Granted no one ever said criminals are smart, but guns make a great defensive weapon and a piss poor way of murdering someone. Lots of noise and forensic/ballistic evidence. Everyone for hundreds of yards goes "Call 911 and look out the window, that sounded like a gun!" plus the blood splatter, shell casings, etc etc etc..

If you wanted to murder someone, a stick, baseball bat or a knife is still a much cleaner and quieter way, but I'm not trying to be quiet if I'm defending myself which was kinda OP's point!

(It was a good point.. back on topic. Sorry!)

It's remained pretty civil for the most part, but as always I'm impressed you guys let touchy subjects like this remain open. It's one of the many reasons TW rocks.. People can actually discuss things.

    Ok, enough ass-kissing for me.

life in danger or not who wants to get attacked or bitten by a dog. Phoenix has one lucky dog owners out there, me in your place I probably would of shot dog. I don't carry when I bike ride and this is one of my worries. I say you did the right thing. Folks need to control their animals.

sucks you were put in that situation.

And god yes, it is Wednesday after all.

Edit: actually I just ran across that post and thought it was appropriate considering the gun for defense topic.

Am I late to this party?
Are we bashing or supporting op on this one?

Op, whatever it takes (legally) to protect you and yours is ok in my book.
I do think the dog may have been startled when you ran by...if I recall there was some six foot shrubs between you. I think the dog was just being protective of its owners. However he should have been on that leash.

    Nope.

$25 and an easy 50 question test gives me a card that entitles me to purchase any handgun for the next 5 years.
The card is not needed for ownership, only for purchase or borrowing.

10 day wait, standard background check.

There are certain handguns (and rifles) that are considered to be "assault weapons"... even though they function no differently from any other semi-automatic firearm... they just look scary. Those are a no-go.

Carrying a handgun? I can carry a handgun with me any time and (almost) any place as long as it is in a locked container and unloaded.
If I am hunting or fishing, I can legally carry loaded and concealed without a permit.
If I am in an area of unincorporated county territory where shooting is not otherwise prohibited, I can carry openly and loaded without a permit.

California is not even in the top 5 most restrictive states.
Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Hawaii, and Maryland all have overall more restrictive gun laws than California.
Ohio is a shall-issue state for concealed carry permits, but they do require a handgun permit to purchase... so I'll give the "freedom edge" to Ohio on that one.

rich, we do not have any "handgun permit", ...you must be getting us mixed up w/ MI... we are 100% shall-issue, open-carry legal (constitutional, i.e. no "permit/license needed"), and no registration of course, ...NFA/full auto legal, ... ;)

I've seen references to getting a handgun permit in OH... did the law change in the last 3-4 years?

    Thug: give me your wallet!
Law abiding citizen: hang on, it's in this locked case.
Thug: is that a gun case?
Law abiding citizen: uhh no, it's my wallet case....
    Thug: bang!

    California laws are great.
