Alright, So i'm here with questions! I have found Threads on turbo setups, but no how too's. i am doing research for my father, were both gear heads but i'm more of a fast car guy. i love trucks but i race cars at the track as a hobby! but that's not why i am here.

My dad bought a 2011 Tacoma recently. just the 4 banger. and he wants more power for towing. hes not looking to street race or anything like that so max power is not a concern, what i'm looking for is a turbo manifold. if they even make one? i cant find one. and what can the Stock engine hold? 6PSI safe? and what kind of power would that make?

and if we tune it, how much more power and lbs of boost could we get out of it with the stock system? of course a computer for tuning of some sort and bigger injectors is expected.. i use the Xcal3 scanner on my track car.

Me and my father are good with engines, and i have turbo'd many of my own rides. but i had a large aftermarket and performance parts manufactures to choose from that i cant seem to find for the Tacoma. we will be doing all the work are selves! besides, who works on your vehicle better then yourself?

First you need to research your engine Toyota uses the same engines in other cars. Find out what they buil with stock bottom ends. Then learn about turbos psi is a measurement of manifold pressure has nothing to do with performance. The higher the number the more stress on bottom end. So if you want a low boost set up you need to find a large enough turbo that'll spool near your target rpm. Then match it to the volume efficiency of the motor. You sound like you want a cheep solution make a u pipe from stock manifold. Make a flange get a 16g dsm turbo or volvo turbo. Or a holset hy35. Then a fuel management system and large enough injectors. Tap block and oil pan for oil lines. Wideband o2 for tuning. Its a lot more than just slap a turbo on it. A junkyard set up could cost 1000 with everything or an 8000 $ tutbo and fuel system like mine. You also need a larger fuel pump

Well i'm not sure which is easier, i know he wants to get around 300HP but i'm not sure how easy that is.? if i can just find a turbo manifold made for this engine ill be set. just really wanting to know what the max HP the stock motor can hold along with max Boost. if it can handle 300HP with some bigger injectors and a tune then great! if not, what ever the max Safe reliable power is, is most likely what well go for

im not sure what engine the truck has in it, i know its a 5 Speed Transmission, 2011 model, 4 cylinders. ill find out exactly what its got in it when i go over to his place on Saturday

White, debadged, Mudflaps removed, ICON 2.5 in front, 2.0 in rear, all 4 corners have reservoirs, Spidertrax wheel spacers all around, BAMF bolt on sliders, Avid lightbar, oem transmission cooler converted to power steering cooler, aftermarket transmission cooler eliminating all oem transmission cooler stuff, remote mounted spin on transmission fluid filter TrueTrac rear differential, rear diff housing vented and filtered into left side bed box, URD MAF calibrator, Volant intake scoop into oem airbox, second filter removed, airbox internals smoothed, blended and polished throttle body, NST intake manifold spacer, Wet Okolee set covers, WeatherTech Digital Fit mats, inexpensive JVC single DIN, Scangage, AVS Stepshield door sill protectors, Doug Thorley Long Tube Headers, URD Y pipe with O2 sims.
I hope you find the answer. Honestly though, in the big picture it may just be easier to stuff in a Tundra engine and gearbox, plus electronics.

300 I'm sure is a safe number it probably pushes close to 200 stock. I'm just not sure what you'll need. Any fab shop can make a header their not hard you just got to be a good welder.

    You'll need:
    Header
Go with holset turbo off early 2000 Cummings (quick spooling and can handle around 400hp cheap and easy to rebuild very reliable)

    Injectors
    Some type of fuel management
    Tubing and intercooler
    Exaught
    Oil lines
    Walbro 255 fuel pump
About 2000 $ for all that new

8 psi is usually the "golden" number when it comes to boosting in the unknown. I don't know what the 4 clyinder's OEM power (crank or wheel), but with a proper setup, it should make around twice what the stock whp is, at ~8 psi.

I say find a local shop. Then tell them your plans. As for turbo manifold flange, you can have one made, or cut your OEM one off and weld up to it. Then it is just routing and tuning .

Dang, so no one makes a turbo manifold for this engine. that's surprising, i figuerd being a truck it would be a pretty high in demand piece. and im pretty good with turbo builds, ive done a few. i had a new car in 2008 that i turbo'd the same year it was released. everything was custom on that build too it just took a while to work out the kinks.

Mainly was trying to see if anyone had done this before so i could avoid any tragic mishaps that may have occurred before. how do you guys recommend tuning on the Toyotas? Do they make a good handheld system with datalogging?

There are no hand held options, like SCT or others for American cars.

URD has a Rotrex S/C kit available for your engine. Not sure of the power output because I have never looked.

Being an '11, you will most likely have to wire in something. The cost of that unit will depend on how nice of one you want.
