Just the other day I notice my truck was no longer making the beep noise when I shift the manual transmission into reverse. I'm baffled as to why it would just stop working. Has anyone alse had this issue, and if so, what was the problem, and is there a fix? Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

There was a beeping? My 5-speed never did that?

I didn't know that was an option on Tacoma's. Although I know you can buy reverse bulbs that make that beeping sound. Do you have the stock bulbs in them?

The truck has always beeped 2-3 times when put into reverse in the whole time I've had it. It's to indicate you are indeed in reverse, and not first gear.

Not a back up beeper. It's a beep that comes from inside the dash to let you know that you are in reverse. It's so you can differentiate between reverse and 1st, to avoid putting it into the wrong gear. Since 1st and reverse are both at the front left of the shifter.

I have a feeling that the beeper might just have gone dead, or a wire has wiggled loose. Is it the same beeper that is connected to the passenger/driver seat belt warning? Maybe test that first.

Just to clarify, Its just one beep when you put it into reverse, not like a backup beeper. Probably so you know you are in reverse and not first. My 6 speed does it and i would think all of them do.

Sorry i cant help OP but my guess is it would be an easy fix...once you figure out whats not working lol. Check fuses?

I think he means it should beep once (inside the cab) when you put it in reverse. My 6 speed as always done it. I guess its to tell you you're in reverse and not in 1 gears.

Auto guys and 5 spd guys probably have no clue what he's talking about.

Does it beep a couple of times on start up? I think that's the same beeper.
If it still does the beeper itself is probably still good

Good point. Maybe something in the shift linkage? That's all I got.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Same here, but the 6 speed pattern has reverse right next to first so it does that when you slide it into reverse. Just something they did to idiot proof the truck. But, any experienced manual driver shouldn't need the beep to know they are in reverse.

First time i drove a 6 speed tacoma years ago the guy had some stupid shift knob. Threw me his keys and asked me to move his truck. I had no clue it was a 6 speed. Took me a minute to realize what i was doing lol. Now i own one :D

who needs the beep, you have to push so hard to get it over it would be near impossible anyways. I fiddled with mine for like 5 minutes at test drive before I asked salesman what the "trick" was.

in my defense, my car does indeed, have a "trick" for reverse, as does the only other six speed I've ever driven

Yeah my 6 speed does it every time. Nice little feature too. Same beep you get when you put it in 4wd.

From time to time, my reverse beep indicator doesn't work either, then it comes back. Good idea to check the backup lights - thanks. Likely some switch somewhere that is wearing out - although in my case, pretty prematurely.

Mine has never beeped when going into 4wd?

LOL! mine doesn't either, it clicks behind glove box when going into 4hi and another click when going into 4lo, just checked. No hesitation locks right in. The beep for reverse is the same beep you hear when you leave the keys in with engine off and open the door. Going into reverse 1 beep, door ajar with key in ignition continuous beep.

Don't know if this is it or not but you can turn the beep on and off. Onmine it can be programmed via the rearview mirror. Is there any way thatsetting was changed on yours?

I'll check the back up lights later when the wife gets home. I was in some pretty heavy rain lately, so maybe it'll dry up and fix itself. I haven't driven it in a few days as I don't drive it to work. I'll report back, thanks guys.
