I just got a ticket for doing 59 in a 40. Any body have any good advice for "beating" a speeding ticket??? Is my only choice showing up for court and hope he doesn't show up.

On a side note, I thought it was kinda funny that since the truck is debadged the officer had to ask me what the model of the truck is.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Your only hope is going to be if he doesn't show. The other option is going over the ticket with a fine-toothed comb and verifing everything he wrote down is correct; ie, date, time, license numbers etc.

I learned some in my over 8 classes of traffic school!
1 dont have a rador detector , they call having that as your warning so if you have it hide it before they walk up!
2 ask to see the rador's screen in his car to verify the speed, * most dont save it so you get away free * but if they do have it YOU FOR SURE GET THE TICKET now!
3 play slower music no rap or rock slower songs make the cops think of good time they had with that song and let ya off, worked 3 times so far
4 examine the ticket look for ANY mistakes!
5 look sad and sorry but DONT CRY OR BEG! make it look like you are sad ya got pulled over !

#2 is crap depending on the state you live in- The state of Florida SPECIFICALLY prohibits the cruisers from having a method of "saving" a speed. They are also usually under no obligation to show you anything. They will have to most likely visually estimate your speed and gun you in fairly quick succession. Write or print the speed and that's that.

To the OP- If you have a clean record going to court is your best chance. The cop may not show, and if they do they may negotiate with you and talk to the judge on your behalf. If they won't do that the judge may still take mercy on you and assign you traffic school or a larger fine in lieu of points.

Oh yeah...Don't speed in the first place and it's not any issue...Jus saying.

try getting a lawyer to take care of it. If you know any lawyers personally, a lot of them will know other lawyers that know cops or judges that can take care of it.

I got a ticket going 60 in a 50 and a lawyer friend was able to have it changed to a non-moving violation, but it was the same fine.

Change the court date and that increases the chance that the officer wont show up

In WV if you ask to see your speed they have to show you. I was told this personally by a cop who i use to do ride alongs with. He would pull someone over and then say "Better clear this off so they don't ask to see it" so take that for what it's worth

I put the caveat in there....You gotta know your own state laws if you are going to try to play that game...I don't pretend to know laws in every state...but there are states where they are not allowed to save the reading and are not under any obligation to show you anything but the ticket.

    Hi Texas,

Why try and beat it. You just admitted to the whole world that you were speeding. So, you know you were wrong.

Just "cowboy up", and go pay the ticket, AND SLOW DOWN....!!!!

As motorcyclists, we love the Hill Country.....!!!

    1. more than likely
    2. bullcrap
    3. iffy
    4. mistakes wont always get you out of a ticket...ive made mistakes on tickets before and the judge questioned me about it and then upheld the ticket...
    5. iffy

3 and 5 will not get you out of a ticket every time...it may help...but dont count on it

    x2

this is also a good possibility...but again...not guaranteed

if you were speeding...be a man...admit that you were wrong...got caught...take the consequences like a man...and learn from your mistakes

before jeff roasts my ass, note the wording. I said it increases the chance. If it does it is a little bit but anything can help when you know you got nailed

lol how did he not recognize a tacoma? It's only the top selling mid-size truck in the US. You would thing cops would atleast be able to identify common cars!

    I got caught doing 58 in a 40 a while back. Only I got a warning :D

i have gotten out of tickets by being honest and not playing dumb. Do not act like you did not know what you were doing. If the cop asks you why you were stopped you tell him it was because you were speeding and then if he goes on and asks how fast were you going and what was the speed limit you tell him that. One thing I have learned is that cops DO NOT like to be lied to...I live in Cali and it has worked for me...

this is pretty much the case for me...however i do not ask the violator what they did wrong...i approach and inform...if they argue...ticket time...if they apologize etc...i start to weigh all other factors

X2. I've only been pulled over once in my life, but i was completely honest and straightforward and got off with a warning.

Ya, I know I should man up and just pay the fine BUT I'm trying to save cash right now.

I didn't really say much while being pulled over. I didn't lie but I probably should have apologized though.

I was looking over my ticket and the only things I can see wrong is that he listed my license plate registration as 2010 when it is only registered until Sep 2009. He also listed the street surface as dry when it has been sprinkling throughout the morning. This is likely useless but I printed out a weather map showing rain in the area with the time listed from weather.com.

I’ve heard here in San Antonio that on the day of your court date they try to negotiate with you before you actually go to court. I’ll likely do that.
