Box Rocket Fab Bed Racks

Can you elaborate on the mounting using the factory bed rails? Are you satisfied that they won't slide forward under heavy breaking or heaven forbid a frontal impact?

Shouldn't be a problem. but in a frontal impact all bets are off. Hell the entire bed can move forward in a frontal impact

 

Understood. So are you just using the factory cleats with a hole drilled in the angle or does the angle have some sort of tabs welded on it that fit in the track? Thanks again for such a quick response.

 

There are slotted holes in the feet for the cleats to fit into. Infra just recieved his rack a couple days ago. Maybe he can share some detailed pics of the mounting.

If someone was worred about the cleats being secure enough, they could drill another hole in each of the feet to run a bolt with a square nut into the track for extra security.

 

If you are inquiring about the 2nd gen bed racks, here are some pictures that might better explain/show you how it mounts with the bed cleats into the bed rails. Basically the angle iron sits on top of the bed sides and there are rectangular holes on the inside of the angle iron that match up with the bed rails. Bed cleats are mounted into the bed rails through the rectangular holes on the angle iron and then tighten down the bed cleats

It would on a 2nd gen unless two extra slots were made in the angle iron for the clamps that need to go into the bed rails for the softopper

 

Does your rack mount on top of the bed rails or do you put a bolt through the vertical inner wall of the bed rail?

I don't see any bolts in your pictures (presumably because you were just modeling your rack... holy innuendo)

 

Not sure if you are asking me or Adam, so I'll answer anyways. My rack for a 2nd gen sits on top of the bed sides and part of the angle iron hangs over and covers the bed rails. On each side there are 2 holes in the angle iron where the bed cleats fit through into the bed rails and are then tightened down. Hope that helps explain & if not then I can get you more pictures upon request after work today

I have a first gen, so no bed cleats.

I was wondering where the bolts/holes are for mounting. The part of the angle iron that is parallel to the bed/street or the part of the angle iron that is orthogonal to the bed/street? Or both?

Pretty sure they go thru the inside lip being the vertical piece hanging down.

 

Adam the rack you donated to the raffle in Moab was awesome. I wish the drawing had gone to someone who actually had a first gen and could use it, but that thing is sick. You definitely make some quality stuff. It was cool to see your truck too
