body Lifts!?!?!? just curious no hard feelings ;)

I am just curious as to why this is frowned on the web site?

Just for the reason that every tacoma owner uses the truck differently and if you are not beating it down out in the woods and jumping ditches and just driving mainly paved roads then there wouldn't really be a reason to spend the money for a bad ass suspension lift just to bring it off the ground more.

is there more to this than I am not seeing?

I don't like being able to see that much frame. Just looks tacky

 

Think about the event of an accident. You've now spaced up your body off the frame and changed how the impact force is transferred from the cab to the frame. That's by #1 reason. I don't beat my truck in the woods but I opted for a suspension lift because the stock suspension is absolutely pathetic and I actually wanted to make the truck better.

 

You don't gain any up or down travel with body lifts either

Stresses on body/frame/bolts due to increased leverage can cause you big problems...bigger body lift, bigger problems

 

Most suspension kits on the market don't either, only moving the static ride height within the range of travel

You gain uptravel but lose downtravel with any stock-travel lift.

 

On the same note... when you lower the truck using stock travel drop kit you gain down travel

I'd also argue that down travel is more 'valuable' than up travel in 90% of suspension systems, so in lifting the truck using a stock travel kit, you gain zero real benefit other than aesthetics.

Don't argue it's to fit larger tires...to get full use of the suspension, you still need to trim the body/frame if you want to run bigger than a 265/75/16 tire...you can do that with zero lift...trim to fit bigger rubber, that is. The meaningful ground clearance comes from tire size

 

I'd counter that argument by saying you upgrade the shocks, better valving, better performance, less fade, a stronger shock, etc. It's not just aesthetics you gain, you get a better suspension.

 

And I'd counter by saying, that while you're correct, the quality of the components that make up a stock travel system is not what is being discussed...

The discussion is focused on the static position of the wheel in the given system, and how that effects the dynamics of said system
