    Hi after further inspection of the rattling of the brake dust cover i noticed the wheel bearings is on there way out cause it spins ruff instead of smoothly so my ? is are they hard to replace? i know i have did many cars in the past but never did a truck that had lock out hubs.

    Also is there any free guides on how to do it?

    I did mine...well, as far as i could, what I mean is, i pulled both front spindles off and took them to NAPA. The bearings are pressed in and very hard to get out even with a press. I got all the parts from Toyota and NAPA did all the press work. They turned it around in about 3 hours.

    Did u have to remove the lock in hubs when u did it? or can they be replaced w/o removing the hubs

    Well sure enough that's that the rattling sound was :) i use a angle grinder and cut that dam dust cover off and now no more rattling. I think i might just try to buy a whole another wheel assembly instead of trying to get new bearings

    Good luck Spindles are not cheap and I needed one, took me a few months to find a used one. do you have manual hubs or Autos?

    getting there....
    yep....new hub assy's/spindles at the dealership are $167 a piece. i checked when i bought my wheel bearings the other day. still havent changed my bearings, but im gonna later down the road. they are guaranteed to be a pain in the ass.

    well, thing is, i think my passenger side spindle may be a bit warped, so i think im gonna wait and just get new spindles later on and do it all at the same time.

    honestly....i think that the people who owned it before me, seeing as how bad of shape it was in, never balanced their tires, and that constant vibration and outta round movement may have warped it a little. i installed my new cv's, and alotta the shake went away, but i still have some around 60-70mph, and i have had my tires balanced a few times to rule that out. hell, who knows, it may be that the tires arent balanced all that great, so we'll see i reckon.

    Mine are lock outs and do the 4x4 4cly and 6cly 4x4s use the same lockout hubs?

    im thinking i might take my spindle off and pay a shop to replace the bearings for me but if it cost more then 167 to do it i will just buy a new one.


    i know in the past on my 95 eagle talon the bearings went out and the bearings coasted $39 for the kit and i got a whole other spindle at the salvage yard for $45 so i went that rout

    99 4X4 I4 and V6 used the same wheel hub assem. the bearing are one sealed unit/side. pressed in and need pressed out. take a look at this, it may help you understand a little better.

    that price listed above is just for the Spin.. not hub, bearings or seals. the bearings for our trucks are $, a little more expensive then the talon ones you did...

    Nice dig.

    Usually they are only replaced if needed. There isn't a maintenance schedule for them.
    If they grind or sound unhealthy.....replace.

    x2 on having a shop with a press replacing them. When i had my passenger side bearing replaced the shop doing the work said it took everything there press had to push them out and said it was close to 40tons to pop it loose. When it finally popped, it sounded like a .12 gauge going off. In some ways i wish toyota would have made the front bearing assembly servicable like the older 90-94 pickups.

    Hmm.. well we just got a 20 ton press. Hoping that'll do the trick. Will be doing this before too long on mine. Is there any special mounts/tools needed for the press like to position the hub correctly? Or just stick it in there and press away?

    We did this with a 20 ton press and it also took a lot of heat - like cherry red - to get it to pop loose. Most guys say you need a 50 ton press to make this job go smoothly.
