Driving home on the interstate last night. Some prick in front of me with a Chevy 1500 with mudders on it apparently had driven on gravel and loaded up his tires right before getting on the highway. Needless to say I got a crack in the windshield before I could merge out of the way.

I haven't had to get a windshield replaced in nearly 20 years, believe it or not. I'm calling insurance tomorrow because I'm pretty sure I've got no hassle glass coverage. Since cost probably isn't going to be an issue, who should I go with? I'm tempted to ask the dealership to do it since I figure they would be the least likely to f it up, and would be the best ones to fix it if they do. Recommendations?

Well, safelite it is... I do like the idea of being able to watch it getting fixed (and also not having to drive anywhere). I'll give them/my insurance a call tomorrow. Thanks for the replies.

safelite's cool. I only used them once on some glass I had to have insurance cover. dude shows up, fixes mine, makes my son laugh his ass off, then fixes a chip in my neighbors window for free since he had a few minutes left on the clock

I had 3 straight windshield that got rock damage.. bad streak. The first two I had done by safelite and they were good, but CHECK YOUR INSURANCE FIRST!!! I found out my insurance covers a free windshield replacement every so often with NO DEDUCTIBLE but they wanted to arrange the replacement which turned out good also.

Your auto ins may not have this, but it's worth checking and most people don't know about it. Good luck!

I have delt with Safelite twice in 5 years and they have been great both times. In most cases they come to you. Taco windshields are about $300 to replace if you don't have glass coverage. Glad I have glass coverage. Call the insurance and tell them you want to use Safelite. I have USAA and that's who they prefer, but it's up to you.

I had mine replaced 3 weeks ago. Not even a week later on the freeway I had a rock hit my winshield. Need to call about the chip.

How do you figure it's higher quality glass? Is that what they say or do you know this for a fact? Not trying to pick a fight, just trying to understand how you figure it's better than Safelites glass?

I just had to have my scion xb taken to the shop to get firewall coweling repairs due to safelight cutting into it with their wire that they used to cut the seal in the windshield
They paid for all damages so no real complaints
Not saying there bad but just keep an eye on them while working

That's that funniest statement I have ever heard from an insurance company. I agree with "if it protects me idc." My insurance company prefers Safelite, but it was my choice on who I wanted to use. As long as the glass isn't going to fall out all of a sudden because the tech or company put it in wrong, I am good.
