I've been looking at a KLR650 for a while now...anyone have any advice? I'm a big dude, plus used to alot of power (CBR 1000/Yamama Warrior/Triumph 1050)

But I really want to get into dirt biking as well, I feel like I can get alot crazier on a dirt bike than in my truck and not have to worry about a 30k price tag if something goes wrong lol. I can tuck and roll pretty well(laid a bike down doing about 50 and rolled/slid 100+ feet, very light road rash through leathers)

Fuck it, nothing I can do about it, and I have to do that race on the 15th, doesnt help that its supposed to be one of the hardest races in the US! Training my ass off to make sure I dont embarrass myself too badly.

Yeah I totally tore my Proximal Bicep tendon clean off of my shoulder, it is responsible for about 20% of your bicep strength, not to mention that it hurts with a lot of use, but it is what it is.

I am not about to let that stop me, I have raced with a Type 3 shoulder separation and a broken clavicle. Yeah it hurt, but when I am riding I dont feel the pain much, until its really bad, then I am horrified to say the least.

    Yeah WOOT!

    You missed me, thank god.....

Your reasoning is VERY flawed, lol. A helicopter ride and hospital bills will make that truck look cheap...$30K is nothing. I have racked up over $100K in a single incident during a race when I was 15...

Ever heard with age comes a cage? And thats from guys who have been riding forever, lol.

A KLX 650 feels like riding a CBR1000 with knobbies, SUPER HEAVY! I would choose a smaller bike, its not like the street where you need the power for drag racing, on a dirtbike having too much power and inexperience can lead to a situation you didnt prepare for. A 450 will be more than enough for any new rider and a 250 is a better entry level bike and you will learn much faster. My .02

But its about the funnest thing I can do when not nekked! Haha. Only because I am scarred to ride with no clothing...

    The top of shell reef!

Hey, that's why I asked here :D...good to know about the bike though...I sat on one in a stealership and it was definitely a different feeling than every other bike I've sat on...had to Karate Kid my Leg up just to get on the damn thing lol...didn't help that the only one they had was stuffed with riding bags all over the place....but good to know...

iIve got wifely approval for a bike to commute on...was really looking into a dual sport of some kind to get good mileage on and have some fun in the dirt on as well. Was looking at some 450's as well, its hard to understand that more power on dirt isn't a good thing sometimes...but at the same time...I'll be using it like 80% of the time on road...so I want the power to be able to move about the freeways well...

Maybe I better just get a 250 dirtbike AND a streetbike for commuting...that sounds funner :D
