No need for cards or taping off outside of rim. Just put a heavy coat on perimeter of rim and peel the excess of the tire. To me the more careful you try to be with it you will get the worst results!

Turns out it doesn't hold up to 160lbs behind the heel of a boot too well; but, touches up easy enough

I wold never derp something that takes consistent abuse like step bars, handles, etc. Rims just spin and spin and spin sending the derp pancake for an endless, smooth ride. Works like a charm.

Well, aside from brush and such (which hopefully it will hold up to), they don't take constant abuse - the heel of the boot was accidental
I mainly did it because I've been considering doing this with Line-X, and this was a cheap way to see what it'd end up looking like

I did my wheels and all my badges in Black. My Devil Horns Emblem was done in Red. No regrets and lots of compliments. Did emblems a yr ago and wheels 2 months ago. So far they have both held up to high pressure washes at the carwash. I am thinking about glossifier just on the wheels. Undecided as of now.

As I said before, this is bad advice. Not taping or carding will cause one giant pancake of derp attached to rim and tire. Then you have to take a razor blade to surgically slice away the outer derp stuck to tire. Will look terrible vs the proper method.

Also you say... "To me the more careful you try to be with it you will get the worst results!" Lol.... you ever hear you get what you pay for? Well this project can be perfect and permanent, or can be half assed and end up a pancake fluttering on the highway. Reap what you sow.

I did not use cards. I just used an X-Acto knife and had no problem. Looks clean and has lasted. Just make the cut before the Derp dries.

This will work. Now here is my argument why I would avoid this method....

Rim is on the ground facing heaven. Cards in place. Spray. Remove cards. Let dry. The derp has created a natural thick bead of itself in that crevice now. It dries to a more durable, less prone to peeling, thicker ring of derp. A blade will only leave the thin coat of derp freshly sliced and exposed. Derp is like a surgical glove. Whats at the base around the wrist? A thick rib. Without that rib the glove will tear like no ones buisness. Do they both look good? Yes. Will mine last longer than yours? Also yes. To each his own my friend. To each his own. :D

More than one way to skin a cat. I agree with all your points. However, it seems that I have somehow miraculously pulled off derping my wheels WITHOUT USING CARDS and they look great and have and are still holding up. I don't care if your wheels look better than mine. My truck is not a show truck its a go truck and I use it hard. I did the wheels strictly
for the color and ease.I guarantee you that when you go to get new tires on your perfectly derped wheels, that they won't be perfect anymore. Does not matter how thick the end is.

    here's a tip too:
don't know if anyone's experienced this; but, (despite wiping nozzle and spraying upside for 5 seconds, as recommended) while waiting between coats, my nozzle would always get slightly plugged up; and the following spray would be all chunky and ruin everything i had done up until that point
i bought some mineral spirits and dumped some of that business into the cap and placed the the spay can into it upside-down (submerging the nozzle in the the spirits), between coats
didn't have any more clogging problems afterwards

I SUMMON THE POWER OF THE BIG GREEN WEENIE (army) TO LAY SMACK DOWN ON CHAIRFORCE MAN. Haha, I only kid. Can't do my job without your JTACs! And oh yeah... when 40,000 or so miles takes it toll on my AT's I WILL have to rederp! Maybe sooner. But until then derp on my friend... derp on.

Since your a Big Green Weenie (your words not mine) would you have figured out on your own to use cards, or are you using them because you saw it on a video? Just curious. BTW if you scored higher on your ASVAB Test you could have been in the ChairForce too. Just sayin'. :D
