I am looking at getting the 886 with Dakar in the rear. Do I need to replace my UCA? I have had some shops tell me that it isn't necessary, but everyone that I have seen do the lift does it. So is it necessary? What are the pros and cons of doing it? And if I have to replace it, which brands are good? I have heard of TC, All Pro, Icon, etc, but not sure what the differences are with the different types of UCA's.

Also, do you have to get extended brake lines with the lift? Or is it not necessary?

Any lift where your pushing the 3" mark, you reallyl want to to a UCA so your not riding on a max'd out Balll joint the entire time. The UCA is stronger, give you the added droop, and allows you to get back into alignment easier.

All brands are pretty similar in that they use 1" uni-balls except Camburg who uses a 1.25".
I will say best quality are gonna be the Icon, TC, and Camburg.

    Thanks!

Anything 2.5" or taller really should be done with UCA's. hence my 2" poor man's lift.

Thanks that definitely helps. I've seen there are the 2 different types of uca's from each company. Does it matter which one? The price difference is pretty big...:/

Usually either a billet or tube option, or a Heim or bushing option. Both have the same performance, the heim option has more adjustability. The Icon billet UCA's have a nicel dust cap that keeps gunk and debris out of the uniball giving it longer life and looks more bling bling

If your looking for a cheaper option check out light racing UCAs by SPC. They are balljoint style UCAs like our stock arms, more affordable than the higher end uniball UCAs. They are adjustable for camber/caster. I think they pair well with a OME setup, uniballs offer more and cleaner travel and are paired well with higher end suspensions IMO.

So if I go with the cheaper one ill still get the same performance? I heard the difference is how much you can correctly align it. Is that true?

With the OME setup, the light racing arms will work well. But if your ever go to a full Coil over down the road, they wont cut it and you would have to go with a Uniball one. Don't buy parts twice. Do it right the first time

Ahh okay. That makes more sense. And so tc, icon, and camburg make those? And it's usually the more expensive one of the 2? Correct?

Why will they not work with a full coilover ?

Lack of articulation becsuse they are a ball joint type UCA ?

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
as far as i knew, you could go ball joint UCAs with standard length coilovers and really needed the uniball type for extended length :notsure:

According to SPC their UCAs provide improved articulation over stock. Im sure uniballs are a better option if your doing high speed wheeling. Straight from SPC:

    3. A. These control arms have approximately 20˚more articulation capability than your OEMarms (85˚for the SPC vs. 65˚for the stock ball joint.) If your stock arms had sufficient travel in the ball joint, these arms will not be the limiting factor to suspension travel.

It really depends on your preference. Light racing UCAs get the job done, your alignment will be in spec and they are affordable. A few people have had issues with them, but it is few and far between. I don't have and have never had uniballs, so basically going off of what i have read, uniballs offer better performance, "cleaner travel" and more travel, but more expensive. You will not need more travel with OME shocks than the light racing arms provide. Although like SDHQ said if you upgrade to a high end coilover, uniball UCAs are a better option.

Okay that definitely helps. Thank you. Now for the last question, do you need to get extended brake lines? Or will the stock ones still reach?
