Yeah, they announced the '13 Limited in September. So word should come around the same time this year. But I think guys here on TW knew about it in august a little ahead of the official press release.\

    :edit:
nevermind. I was wrong. Found this article that was dated July, so it might be much sooner.

I think some dealerships already had limiteds on their lots in September...

Hey guys, I'm new here, so go easy on me please. I've only owned Toyota trucks my whole life, and I currently have a 2005 that I love.

However, I'm looking forward to the 2014 (and will probably trade up for one next year), but I couldn't find any information on it online other than rumors. Fortunately I have a connection to one of the biggest Toyota dealers in this area of the country, and I managed to ask him about the 2014 today. According to him, the 2014 will have a direct injection engine, and it will be available in 6 different configurations. This information came via a text, so I can't provide anymore specifics, and since it isn't public knowledge otherwise (other than rumors), I can't give out my source, but I promise it is legit. I also don't necessarily expect anyone to believe me since I am new here, but I was excited to hear this news today, and since this is the first Toyota forum I found on google.....so here you go :D

Why would they cancel the FJ it was Toyotas answer to the jeep and they would sell better if they had an update every now and then

no one was buying them, plain and simple

too many faults, football helmet with wheels design, brush snags on
the corners, cheap plastic crap interior with no space, rolling blind spot

it was a good idea with failed execution.

now, if only they would un-gay the 4runner back to 1999 size and stance

I just talked to the guy again, and he confirmed what I said before. Again, I won't give out names but he would definitely know. He said the 4 cylinder will have ~190 hp, and the 6 cylinder will have 240-260 hp. Both engines will have noticeably better mpg, and will be available in Sept or possible late August with some aesthetic changes as well.
He even said they are considering putting the new engine in a few 'end of the run 2013s' but don't hold me to that.
I don't expect anyone to believe me just yet, but there should be an official announcement soon.

I say BS. The direct injection has 270, Why 240 - 260. They are not going to announce an engine change any time soon especially one with significant MPG improvement. They have too many 2013s left to peddle and an announcement would kill the sales of the 13s. I bought new a month ago and at the time had a known that he 14 was getting the 4 Runner motor I would have waited.

No money, all went to truck...
I'd be pretty satisfied with my tacoma if it had the 4runner engine.

Sounds like the OP really wants a Tacoma. Why not start enjoying one now? Better than waiting for the unknown.

Thanks for passing along the information. Not sure why others feel the need to react the way they do. I for one understand that this is unsubstantiated information and take it for what it is rather than bash you...

If you are on the fence about buying a Tacoma, just buy one that is one year old. They hold their value enough that you are not going to lose that much money if the new and improved model hits the floor. If you buy a 2013 new, you are taking a risk, but buy a used 2012 or 2013, if the 2014 or 2015 is more to your liking, go for it.

When the updated 2014 Tundra was unveiled all they said was that powertrains will carry-over...they didn't say anything about an update to the V6.....

Now if you were Toyota would you release some information that may hurt your Tundra and Tacoma sales of your 2013 Models or would you wait as long as possible to announce any changes...?

I am just pondering the possibility of the current V6 engine updated with direct-Injection for the 2014 Tundra which will be then be available for the 2014 Tacoma as well to simplify production in the Texas Plant....

    Time will tell...

but it's a dodge... I personally wouldn't touch one (and one of my best friends owns a dealership!)
