I bought a used '08 Tacoma a few weeks ago and just wanted to share my initial findings.

First off, I made a long trip (mostly highway) last weekend, but was loaded with a couch and some guitar gear on the way down and then a bunch of building materials on the way home. I was driving through a huge rain storm most of the way back. Anyway, I got just under 21 mpg, which is better than I expected. My next tank will be mostly city mileage, so I'll see how that goes.

Next, I've noticed a couple annoying things. One is a kind of humming or slight moaning sound that appears to be coming from the driver's side front wheel or axle. I'm not sure what it is, but it doesn't appear to be too bad at this point. Is this a common problem? The second annoying thing is the cup holder just beneath the radio (with the adjustable divider) makes a loud creaking/rattling noise. Its driving me nuts. Any advice on either of those annoying features?

You can secure any interior piece down with patience and tape/glue. As for the humming/moaning.... either wheel bearing or possbile tire defect? Does it sound like metal on metal or...?

Its pretty slight. Nothing crazy at this point. Its definitely part of the wheel/axle because it varies with tire speed. Sounds more like a wheel bearing or something like that, but its probably just starting to go. I don't think its the tire. There aren't any weird wear patterns or anything that I'm aware of.

As for the rattling in the cup holder - I'll probably need to figure out how to remove the center console (or at least the portion where the cup holder is). How easy is that thing to remove?
