Was about to change my plugs for my 60k maintenance. While trying to loosen the bolts for the engine cover I snapped the bolt. Anyone else experience this. Anyone know a solution

Just got the truck a few months ago. First time working on it. Turned bolt the right way with light pressure and it just snapped. The other is all stripped out

If there is any part sticking out you could try vice grips to unscrew it. If not then a small drill bit ( I use left handed bits as they sometimes will unscrew when drilling ). Drill a small hole in the center of the stud, turn it out using a screw extractor / easy out.

That is why I would like to remind every reader that just purchased a new
2014 Tacoma to spend the time to remove every bolt they can(one at a time) and apply some Anti-Seize to the threads and then replace the bolt. Especially the spark plus!!! I have about 700 miles on my 2014 and
before winter comes I will remove each spark plug and coat the threads with anti-seize. Remember, you have an aluminum block. If you wait to
the scheduled maintenance Toyota recommends to change the plug you run the risk of having a plug (or/two) threads galled up in the block. NOT GOOD!!! Then you have a time consuming(if you do it yourself)task on your hands(like HeliCoils) and/or an expensive dealer project.I have seen galled plugs. Basically the plug comes out and in between the male threads on the plug are the aluminum threads from engine block.
What you are left with is a rough hole about the major thread dia. size of the spark plug in the block. Nasty!!!
