I have read about mods to power the rear sliding window, but I'm not sure what the reason would be to ever have the window open.

Why do you use the rear slider window?

I don't use it unless it is super hot.. And really have to air it out.

Some people would use it on the highway when they can't reach back and close or open it, but i am not sure why they would want to.

Ventilation. Dogs. Unwanted children, the list goes on. Why would you want any window to be power operated?

That moment you crack a fart and need a vortex to suck all the air in the cabin out.

But the position is useless. Dogs can use use the side windows just fine..

Haha, whats wrong with the main windows for that?

It's all about air movement... same reason I love the zip out window on my Miata.

One of the few things I don't like about my Taco, is that manual window (You have to crawl into the back seat to open/close it. I would use it all the time if it was powered.

It exists to be opened, you want options, there is one more. No scientific justification needed.
Go Anny Oakley and shoot out it backwards at the range(not recommended), toss garbage into the back (with canopy on), pet Fido, to have it when your buddies truck does not, run a cb cable out it temporarily, let a breeze in on a hot day to keep it cool.

It's purpose is because people just want them.

    All pro sliders

not necessarily crawl. being 6' i can recline seat all the way down and reach it. i already sit with seat all the way slid back. but i dont attempt to do while moving. on a nice day, i know before i am moving if i want it open, but if something changes and i need it open, pulling over is ok for me. life isn't that much of a hirry to not stop

Another vote for dogs. My puppy likes saying hello through the pair of windows on my truck and snugtop. Plus he gets a little AC in the shell through it. It's good that I have the sport seats because he drools. It just wipes off super easy with a damp cloth though.

Open the slider then crack open the rest of the windows, drive 45-50mph stop close the slider and do the same. You will notice a difference in the way the wind flows through the cabin.

Besides my dog loves to stick his head out it while we are running down the highway at 80mph+ a rock or bug in his eye might be a bad thing.

Well when you've had a few to many at the bar and decide to pass out in the back seat but all of a sudden need to puke 20 min into your drunken slumber... boom your sliders got ya covered.

I only use the window when I have long items to carry, 10' copper/pvc, etc. Otherwise never just for ventilation, cracking passenger window works fine.

It helps with air flow in the cabin, and is nice to have. Back when I was a kid, we used it to pass McDonald's drive through orders to those who were riding in the bed! Extended cabs weren't as common in those days. What can I say, it was a different day and age back then.

I can see wanting a powered slider if you have the double cab and can't reach it. A powered version doesn't really appeal to me as a high priority, because I can reach the slider in my access cab while driving just fine if I want it open. It is a bit of a stretch, but I just reach back and glance at the rear view mirror to see where the latch is to get it without taking my eyes off the road. Our back door windows don't go down on access cab models, so it is more useful to us I suppose.
