Well whatever method you used to derp your wheels yielded great results. Even if you bought new tires later, it's still so much cheaper than powdercoating or painting. The sig pic of my car below is a plasti derp white base coat and the gold is actually spray paint. Totally reversible and dirt cheap! I'll post my truck's wheel pics after work... :)

The fact that I am enlisted army did bring quite the hindrance upon my ability to figure out the use and value of standard playing cards. However... through research and much deliberation, the opportunity presented itself when I learned years ago of their practicality in the given mission. Said fact was discovered when I was a plasti dipping jeeper, and used jeep forums privy to my infatuation and inevitable conversion to toyota.

My Father was Air Force. Full respects. Hell, we even need the navy. I would have joined the Air Force, but I failed the ASVAB when I was unable to spell my own name on the first sheet. Bewildered, I then held the army recruiters masculine yet docile hand as he led me into his office and told me about a "career that a monkey could succeed in." That fact, coupled with the truth that I do enjoy the more "boots on the ground" life style put me where I am today.

Smoke headlights, improved LED tail lights...Pending: De-chrome badges and grille, new tires
I have a couple cans of the hammered black spray paint and was going to use the etching primer and then paint my rims. I'm not sure I still want the hammered look, but what is the real advantage to using the plastic paint? All I can think of is removing it if you dont like it. Anything else?

It's easy to work with. When done right, is permanent. Cheap $$$. EASY to touch up. And then the big bread winner that you listed... removable! (Therefore it protects your rims from brake dust and road scum as well)

I dipped my wheels two weeks ago and they look awesome!! I had some extra bed sheets laying around the shop that I use as drop cloths while painting, and I just wrapped my brakes with the sheets and sprayed to my heart's content.

The trick to get rid of the overspray on your tires is to use some kind of Tire Shine on them before you spray. The PlastiDip will not adhere to the shine, and you can just peel the overspray right off.

Seriously, one of the easiest mods ever and it makes your truck look badass. Do it!

    OMFG was that funny.

And thanks for the great right up on derping the wheels. I might have to give this a go... the Yammy is my summer transportation so I can do the wheels at my leisure. :D

    Totally stock! Excited to mod.
Wheels look fantastic, Soft Taco. Nice work.

I plan on doing this over the weekend. Just so I understand though.. You applied 24 coats to each wheel? Or did I read that wrong?

Looks great! Sure beats buying a new set of rims! Soo tempting... Did you remove the Toyota logo from the center cap before spraying them?

He waited 24 hours before mounting the tire on the freshly derped rim. Not sure how many coats one can provides, but probably not 24.
