NOOBS!! 2 Lost Hikers in Holy Jim

Yep. She started hallucinating before they ran out of water (her own words) and starting falling in and out of consciousness shortly after the 911 call (an hour or two into the hike), in which Nick sounded incredibly calm yet confused.

One expensive 'trip' to the clouds for you Orange County'ans.

 

That just pisses me off...

I spent 4 days and sleepless nights looking for these two, wondering what kind of shit might have happened to them, pulling out all the stops. I mean, don't get me wrong...I've made mistakes before too, but there was so many resources put to use, and people injured just to find these two and they didn't even know WTF was going on because they were so damn high?

I don't even know how I'm feeling now.

 

Figured they dropped acid. Got butt naked. Ran into the forest.

That's the way I'm going out.

 

In SAR callouts, we never make a judgement call on if we're going to respond based on how/what stupid thing folks did to get themselves in trouble. All that matters is that they need help, and yes we've all done stupid things before. Hopefully the folks will understand how lucky they are, learn from it, and recognize that YOU (and many others) made a difference to their lives. What really gets you is when the folks you help out, at their request, give you grief over it when they're back safe and sound!

I've been loosely following this since they were both found. Sounds like they won't be charged for the rescue effort, but there were drug charges for Nick.

it's not fair that they got high, then got lost, and we (the taxpayers) pay for it.

 

And a seriously injured (broken back) rescuer.

 

i forgot about him, that is really not fair to him or his family.

 

I'm sure there is a civil suit in the system.

 

Jeez, I forgot about that guy too. SUCKS. When I was driving out to look for them my wife told me she checked Kyndalls facebook and that she was a "fucking mess who probably ran away.." I ignored it, but she was kinda right. Friggin' meth-heads. Not that we haven't all done something stupid, but a massive 5 day manhunt will be tough to live down.

$350k in medical bills and a lifetime of back pain, drugs, and disability because a couple of idiots wanted to get high.

 

It will be a judgement that will follow them for the rest of their lives.
They will never be able to purchase a home, and any job or bank account they get will be subject to attachment.

They've seriously fucked up the life of another person, they do not deserve to live the comfortable life of an Orange County brat.

 

They seem the type to work under the table or not make enough to garnish anyway.
