I just picked up a used 2nd gen (black) TRD supercharger for my 3.4L Tacoma. I started the tear down process on the supercharger tonight to rebuild it with new bearings/oil to make sure everything was fresh before installing.

I removed the nose drive and the vanes and found some light scoring on the inside of the housing. How much is too much? there also appears to be some light glazing (burnt oil?) in some spots but not much... The vanes appear to be in good condition and the supercharger spun freely before I disassembled it. There was/is no play or wobble in the nose drive.

My question is: how much scoring is too much? At what point should I be concerned? The scoring does catch my fingernail slightly and there is one slightly deeper score mark.

Thanks for any help and tips!

I see what you are talking about but I have no idea if it is normal, good, or bad. Be interesting to hear from others.

Mine had only one scratch that was mild but could be felt with finger and nail. I just smoothed it with scotch pad and only over the scratch. Rebuilt the snout and all is good. I would suggest you doing the same, once assembled and installed you can test and see if it builds boost to spec. Or before you smooth it lay a straight edge (metal ruler) to see if it has a low spot near the scratches (or high spots)

If you want a profesional opinion call www.PSE.us.

You cannot do anything about it other than replace the housing and rotor pack. I would just run it and not worry about it.
