315/75R16 IROK ND Review

JWaldz suggested I start a thread over here and review these tires since hardly anyone is running them.

My Mickey Thompson MTZ's were bare and practically dead, so I pulled the trigger on some 315/75R16 IROK ND's (Non-Directional).

Specs: 67lbs (same as MTZ) 34.7x12.5, tread width 10", 10 ply, 3 ply sidewall.

I have these mounted on a Pro Comp 8069 16x8 wheel, 4" bs. I am also running 1.25" wheel spacers.

I should also mention that two tires balanced with 4oz, the other two with ZERO!

I ordered them directly from Interco, since no one stocks these tires. Malorie at Interco receives two thumbs up for customer service and had these shipped out ASAP, same day. Also, UPS delivered on time as well.

Upon scouring the internet trying to find out anything and everything about this tire, I had only come across some threads from a couple years back when this tire was introduced in much smaller sizes, which are now discontinued. I found someone running them on a Heep Liberty, some Chevy 1500's blah blah blah... nothing special. The only real review I had found was from a guy on IH8MUD who put some 37's on his Land Cruiser and loved them. From the very positive reviews I read about the directional radial IROK, the only difference between these is one side of lugs is running in the opposite direction. I figured I'd give them a shot.

These tires were said to measure 34.7x12.5.... I will tell you they run slightly smaller, as do the 37's.

My MTZ's were very worn, so I'm not certain if the MTZ was just wider because them being on my truck for 3 years and they flattened a little, I dunno, but here ya go:

I will be taking them on the trails on Friday-Sunday, so I will update once I am back from the trip. Otherwise, on the road, they are soft and surprisingly very quiet. I don't feel the bumps like I did with my MTZ's, these tires just float down the road. First impression: AWESOME.

 

Looks sweet. They have a military look which is also nice. There super swampers so im sure they will be good.

Got back from our Gold Lake trip yesterday. These tires performed great! Everything I expected on rocks and loose shale/rock. I was aired down to right under 7psi. The IROK's squishy tread acted like a sponge and gave me tons of bite. Sidewalls held up great too.

On the highway, they have a bit of a hum around 50-60mph as expected but they feel great. Doesn't bother me at all. I'm very happy with these tires.

OP how many miles did you get out of your MTZ's?

 

I'd say I got around 40k to the wear bars

Those look like a skinny 315. Do you have the actual measurements on height and width when they are mounted on the vehicle?

 

They ran a little small. I measured right around 34.5" and barely over 12".

 

I still can't wrap my head around how the MTZ's look wider when in reality they measure more narrow than the IROK's. Strange.

 

lol let me go measure the old mtz's real quick

yup - mtz's from sidewall to sidewall measured 12.5 exactly. The IROK's are right at 12"

Prob since I had so many miles on the mtz's

 

I guess so.. I'll measure mine when I get off work and see what I get. They're supposedly just shy of 12"

 

I remember when I mounted them they were at 12" lol... I don't know what happened.. warped em. I was measuring the bald tire I originally took the pic of with the IROK next to it.

 

OP( or anyone else who is running these) can you give me an update on how the tires have worn? im thinking about ordering but would like to get an estimate on tire life. cant find any real reviews on the web.

 

I just bought a set of 285x70x17 at 4wd part wholesalers for 150 a tire. They had them on sale. They hum down the road, nosiest at around 40. Took little weight. Love the looks of them on my taco.

 

I have 10k on them and I'm right at the bottom of the 5th step. They are somehow wearing awesome lol.

I'm sure they'll start wearing much faster, but I'm extremely happy with them.

 

i went for it and just bought a set 265/75-16. having them installed tomorrow, then heading to the mountains for the weekend. i'll post pics when i get back.
