Ben, I wish we would have had more time to chat out in Moab, we have a lot of common goals with our builds. And you have a lot of knowledge, I need to pick your brain some more. We need to get together a few times this summer.

Common goals with our build, eh? Yeah, we shoulda talked more while out in moab, haha. ;)

The next step in my build is... selling my truck! LOL! I'm going to downsize to an access cab and throw some one tons under it. I've caught the crawling bug, haha.

I've kept the build modest thus far because the original intent was an all-around family friendly wheeler/commuter/all-in-one vehicle and I wasn't planning to go crazy with it. Well, turns out my wife gets seriously car sick when offroading. So that idea is now out the window. Rather than rock the limo forever, I'm just going to SAS and go crazy with a shorter truck and buy a gas sipper for commuting and transporting future kids.

Time to start saving my pennies...

Oh... Well it sounds like maybe you have made some changes since the campfire chat that I was listening in on. Self-sufficient expo truck is my goal then start a crawler build sometime in the future. Maybe even build a buggy as my bro and I get more fab experience. Lauren's Dad's crawler made me really wish I had something like that.
I will soon be driving a corolla for my dd and the truck will get parked except on weekend adventures. Just gotta get a 7 seater for the wife cuz the corolla is hers.

I see. Yeah, we were talking about a different truck. I really want to SAS a regular cab for a dedicated crawler, but the biggest problem with it is the 4cyl. You could make it work and gear it accordingly if it's a trailer queen, but I'm not planning to trailer it and there's no way a 4cyl is going to cut it on the highway with ~38"-40" tires. So access cab it is. If I don't like the length I could always chop off/shorten the rear and go truggy style.

Thanks for the tire advice guys, I was leaning more toward LT tires, and an all terrain tread, so appreciate the help. It's worth the extra cost IMO. I'd rather pay more than worry about an unnecessary flat in the middle of nowhere.

There's a couple DCSB that went SAS and I think I've seen pics of one AC. I thought about getting a 1st gen, but I like the 4.0 and full width axles fit better on a 2nd gen IMO.

I haven't seen anyone bob and dove a 2nd gen bed though. Due to the composite material I think that would be a huge pain in the ass. At that point, just chop it off and truggy it, haha.

ehhh I had the second gen long bed. it was too big for the Californian trails so I sold it and got the 1st gen access cab and have enjoyed that decision a lot.
Ben- Just make sure to get that locker!!

Would your bumpers be a direct swap? I would think so, but I have a runner, so what do I know

No need for the factory locker as the stock axle will be replaced with either a dana 60 or a 14 bolt. Only requirement will be that it has the V6 with 4wd.

Yes, they would swap over, but in order to swap the bumpers, I'd have swap the body lift and the bed too.

Haha, true. I'm probably going to be changing mine soon as my truck doesn't quite look like that anymore.

Damn, I'm gonna be one of the only ones left in the CO threads with a limo :( oh well, she has done me right. I like being unique anyway.
