Just be careful if using a 12V relay from radio shack. I have a Pioneer 2500BT and I needed to purchase a special relay from a guy selling them on Amazon. I am sure you could make it at home, but the new Pioneer head units send a double pulse to ensure the parking brake is applied. The older units only sent one pulse and the basic relay could trip it up and make the unit think the brake is on.

Not the case anymore due to Pioneer becoming wiser to the fact.

Honestly IDK. I haven't bought my speakers and amp yet so I couldn't tell you. It also depends on where your putting the amp. 6' may be enough or longer if you want to put the amp behind the rear seats. Get a rough measurement with a tape to where your mounting the amp and where your running the wires and go from there. If your mounting under the seat there is room to run it all through the center console under the shifter if your auto. I would think 6' would get that. I'm going to run a 5 channel amp in mine and probably mount it under the passenger seat. The bar that's under the passenger seat can be flipped over for more room.

I wasn't aware of that. Last pioneer DVD I wired was 6 years ago. I know they did something with the new NAV units to detect speed with the GPS to reset it too.

I will be running the amp behind my rear seats attached to my sub box so 10ft probably should be good, but Ill double check and run a tape along the path. I am thinking along the side of the truck to the back. Gotta figure out how difficult thatll be.

Shouldn't be hard at all. These trucks come apart pretty quick and easy. I would take everything out of my 1st gen when I would clean it. Post some pics when you get it done.

True my 95 was super easy to take apart esp after a few clips/screws I misplaced or lost. My grille only had two clips holding it on LOL

Ok so I have installed my unit and if anyone knows for a fact the relay bypass is not working and I can't get a DVD to play at all. Do I have to switch control this?? Also, who knows how to splice into the rear view mirror backup camera for it to work with this device as well? Pioneer AVH8400bh

Pioneer did that with my AVIC-D1 back in 2005... it's not just the new units.
At the time, the bypass for Pioneer involved opening the case and soldering a diagnostic jumper on the PCB. Today, an add-on box can do it without voiding your warranty.
Kenwood only requires the parking brake wire to be grounded.

I could care less about voiding the warranty i want the DVD player to work relay, switch, soldering, whatever I need and figure out how to wire up the rear view backup camera

LOL. I hear ya. I've long lost the instructions on how to do it on the AVIC-D1, but I'm sure the procedure has changed.

Looks like it's not checking at startup like the others for the brake on. It does it when you switch to video. I also saw where in the manual it says it needs to be hooked to the positive side of the parking brake switch. Hope this helps. Maybe try switching the relay around some?? Hmmm idk.

Edit: Found something. Looks like a temp fix would be the switch. Here's what I found:

This makes sense to me. My 5pin relay setup did not work, I tried multiple times.

So I pulled the ground wire and the pbrake wire from the relay. Then loaded the DVD, then tried touching the wires together, releasing, then together again... worked perfect!
So I setup a switch with those two wires, and it works great.

Switch is really simple answer that shouldn't ever stop working (as some firmware upgrades have made relays not work for other models, e.g. Appradio).

Get a 3 prong switch. Hookup the parking break wire to the lead. The ground to either of the other prongs (the prong choice will only affect if you leave it "on" or "off" to send the ground signal, this simulates the break on). The last prong is empty (just serves to break the ground signal, that is it simulates the break being off).

So I have a green/white stripe wire(ground I assume), blue and white stripe wire amp wire and a black one hooked up to the relay which want work as noted. My question now is which two color wires go to the switch? Also, there is a red wire coming from the radio and am not sure if I am supposed to be using that one instead of the black one??

I like trial and error so if I can get the switch to work that would be an awesome solution as my last resort is to do it the simple way purchase this and be done if I can't figure this crap out LOL.

Also, I need to figure out how to get the rear view mirror camear spliced into my DVD player and am not sure what wires from my truck are the camera wires to the mirror??

    I would try this.

Ground a wire (black or whatever you have on hand) to the truck somewhere. run it to the switch. Hook the green wire to the other side of the switch. Put a dvd in and turn the switch on. if that doesn't do it try toggling it again or twice in a row and see if it switches on then.
