Standing armed forces help maintain your freedom and liberty. Armed forces need intel. Modern battle is electronic. I'd rather have them working this shit 24/7 to reduce the odds that mine or my wife's legs will be blown off at the mall tomorrow.

x2 I have nothing to hide and im a law abiding American citizen, but does that mean I don't care if big brother monitors my online activities or any anything else of the sort FUCK NO! Some people are failing to see the bigger picture......

constitutional right ain't no body got time fo dat!

    INB4TL

also OP quick questions since you are in the business of this IT security stuff what is cloud computing? How is the information in the "cloud " protected? These carbonite adds I always see on tv trip me out I don't know why anyone would want to back up there home computer on that thing.... maybe I just value my privacy more than others :notsure:

    cloud computing

that is where an entity with a facility with power, redundant ISP connections, and cooling manages
the hardware and software, and you pay rent to use it. you can pay Amazon a fee and they can build
an entire virtualized multi-tiered web site with multiple databases, sql servers, payment systems...or something
as simple as an email server, or something like carbonite and save files online

-you trust them to not lose your data (contractual agreements need to be made and met)
-you have private keys to encrypt your stuff, so the cloud is only storing data blocks, no
one can read the stuff you don't want read
-they worry about floods/fire/backup facilities/disaster recovery

cloud computing is geared towards smaller size businesses having the ability to act
like they have a big data facility, but for peanuts....also you may be an engineer or
a programmer, and you need 12 sql servers and 12 exchange servers set up and running
to prove or debug some code you wrote, then you won't need it in 2 weeks. Why invest
300,000 dollars for all that hardware and licensing ? Pay amazon 80 bucks a day and
unconfigure it when project is finished.

the term 'cloud' just means you don't know or care how it is built or where it
is located, just that you make your connection, and all your shit is right where you left it

inside the cloud are usually huge storage arrays and massive processing power and thousands
    of virtual machines
    ----
I work with the big data forensics and cyber-police (LOL) end of things, so ya sure the NSA
uses our software and a lot of other software and custom tools. some big government or corporate
entity is using our software to prevent access, or track crooks, and if it doesn't work correctly I fix it.
so I am involved in that regard. The NSA is not the only player here. all governments all states
all countries all companies all ISP's every big deal thing going on needs the ability to do
forensics on data in and out of a network.

folks, this is where the big, endless money is. that, and housing construction and remodeling.
you know everything in the CISSP CBK, java programming, html5, oracle database administration,
SIEM, storage arrays, big data forensics,....this stuff is growing exponentially and will not stop.
so if you have geek tendencies, and have a decent work ethic (are not a jackass lazy bastard)
then there will always ALWAYS be work in this stuff

The NSA is the agency LEAST likely to be motivated politically...The OP might back me on this. Case in point - The House and Senate are offended that their comms may have been crawled...they're used to exempting themselves from the nonsense they foist on citizens

I don't play politics or religion

    I speak reality only.

you do something <anything> on someones electronic network
(ISP, phone company, cable provider), and someone wants
to track you down, it is already done.
it is then only a matter of time before
someone physically confronts you for a sitdown.

all activity is logged always. the biggest storage arrays in the world today
just store logs from every possible point and they also capture the full packet streams
of certain communications. very high speed capture with Yottabyte capability (this
is where quantum computing and IBM's ability to store and read a single bit on a single atom becomes
a very big deal). so if they -really- wanted to they could capture and copy the entire USA internet traffic
for over a month. of course that is ridiculous but the machinery to do so already
    exists.
and by the day, capacity is expanding with no limits in sight. the only
problem is cooling and power...and that is continually being worked on....it is a living
breathing ever-evolving skynet if you will....(it just won't ever become self-aware to the
    point shown in movies)

reality is, they don't give a shit about you or me, they want to track crooks and evil entities
and protect corporations and governments from being harmed or compromised.

anyhow, I am merely someone who says "oh it's broke" and I dig in and fix it or find someone who can,
I don't really care how it is used. most of my knowledge that 'the government really doesn't plan to be
evil' comes from working in Air Force intel where I really did see and know a shitload about how
things really work. USA is the best county to live in by a huge huge margin.

Well if you don't mind being spied on, then you don't deserve the bill of rights nor do you respect it. It is the principle of the matter you see. It's not about you having something to hide or not. The people gave government limited power to prevent abuse.

But if you want to live in a Soviet Union - so be it. It will be on your heads, and your disgusting legacy of what the future generations will have to go through to stop tyranny.

It sickens me the way todays youngsters will give up their freedoms because the MSM and WH will shove these LIES down their throats!
Kinda like how the Democrats cover up their racism with narrative..(Like how they say they have been fighting civil rights since the civil war bahahahaha)
    SAME THING
