Careful, don't get this thread locked. Politics are not allowed here. Not to sound like a mod or anything, but I'd like to see where this thread goes without them.

    Yeah.
I think one of the OP's points is that once it leaves your property and goes out on the public network, you should realize that it is no longer private. You don't own the network. You expect the people you pay for services to keep your information safe, but you don't own the networks or storage or other computing resouces outside your own home.

The government doesn't remotely log into your home computer without a warrant. That would be a violation for sure.

But just like there are traffic police, there will be monitoring of the data highways that exist. If you are using those highways in a lawful way you have nothing to worry about -- and they don't really pay attention to you or care if you are whacking off.

If you really want your information protected, send it via Certified US Mail.

Anyone who thought the stuff they post on the web was private, really must live in a foil bubble. They WANT it to be private, so they ASSUMED what they want must be true. Talk about denial. ps reasonable privacy is easily interpreted anyway someone else wants.
my view of the cell phone is the same to some extent, why would our phone transmissions be private in the pursuit of terrorism/etc?

Let them look for the voices of the criminal, let them run a search engine based on word combos and such. 20 trillion phone calls and some people are worried NSA will find out about their tin foil hat, or where they stash the pot. They don't have the time for eavesdropping on worthless chat.

then again I wont be surprised if in 8 more years we will have a political officer to monitor compliance with the standard allowed party mantras.

wait..... what does a mod really do now? NSA employeeees , ruuuuun

Does the NSA/CIA not swear a oath to uphold the constitution?

While most ppl can say well if you do nothign wrong, you have nothing to worry about, look at Boston. Even the Ruskies warned us about them and the Feds failed. Speaking of Boston while searching for the suspects, fed agents forced their way into homes. 4th amendment violation.

Anyway, I see this is a problem say in a few yrs someone is running for office, and somehow info gets leaked on what they do in their spare time late at night. All of a sudden its nightly news and nobody questions the source.

What if you're talking to a buddy online or on TW and you say something about how Tom Brady sucks and should die, are you a terrorists now? Do you trust the govt to handle all this information carefully. Hell the AF doesn't even know when they load nukes on B-52's and half their missle officers are asleep on the job.

Not all would be in a position to have the need to do so. For instance, the lady or man who controls the satellite positions.. They are just doing their job. The only people who do that are the Federals and the Police.

From everything I've gathered, the NSA (and other agencies) only receive data from the providers in large caches.

If they want to do ANYTHING with that data -- especially pertaining to individuals or businesses -- they need a warrant to dig into the data.

If they took a oath and they're removing privacy from people, then it's their "job" to uphold the oath, not obey orders.
It will mean something to them if they're true americans.
