Best looking HID color

I'm stuck between getting 6000k or 8000k for my headlights on my 2012 silver taco, if anyone has pictures that would be great

 

4300k

6000k isn't bad, but it's getting to be a touch blue.
8000k wastes usable light. 4300k appears brighter than either to the human eye. It's a true white that matches sunlight, and is what is used by the auto manufacturers.

 

5000k. Gives you great light output while still having an ever so slight hint of blue for pulling bitches.

 

Stick with 4300K, but no higher than 5000K. Any higher than that and you automatically turned your Tacoma into a Honda Civic.

 

Daylight is a hell of a lot cooler on the Kelvin color temp scale than 4300k. That being said, the human perception of light tends to favor the reds/yellows over the greens/blues in the cooler color temps. I've done photometric's as well as lumen measurement with 3500k, 4100k, and 5000k and the 5000 read just as bright as the 4100 with 3500 reading the lowest. The 4100 did look brighter to me though.

 

Somewhere between 4300 and 6000. But I wouldn't go higher than 5000

I vote 4300K or 5000K. Not big on the blue look, plus the more you get into the cheesy wannabe racecar blue tint, the less effective your headlights actually become... the higher up the scale you go, the more you sacrifice performance (brightness)

 

Haha you should see the guys running green and pink hids.
Pink looks cool doesn't quite blind you but the greenies rip your eyeballs out of the sockets.
4300k for me.

 

No higher than 5000k. I have it and lights up the road like no bodies business

 

I'm running 8000k and it looks white. All depends on the brand I find. Have 6000k in the fogs with them as a different brand tand the two look the same.

 

4300- 5000k

 

Only way an 8000k looks white is if it's a 55w... and then it just looks "less blue" because the intensity washes it out a bit... or, if you bought from DDM, they likely shipped you the wrong lamps like they did to me twice, and the color temp is not indicated on the lamp.
Mine were stamped on the box, but one was smeared and hard to read.

 

The actual bulb itself wasnt marked but the plastic bulb housing was marked 8000k. Just looked. It's also a 35w. Check out some of my pics in my albums and see what you think.

 

Morimoto Elite 5000k 35w FTW! Its a very crisp, pure white. I prefer it over my old DDM kit because the DDM had a pink wink

 

There's a reason oem's send out cars with philips 4300K

Ur still gunna have a blue colorband.

Its hype and misconception that leads ppl to buy blue lights.....u lose usable light, u can't see shit in rain,dust, fog, and blue also is irritating to the human eye (including you the driver) and causes fatigue.

Onlookers will see blue when they are below the cutoff anyhow.

Stick with 4300K to 5000K...................................ur own eyes will thank you

 

True to an extent..........

Some sellers do not require the QC involved to properly rate a bulb.....some manufacturers don't use the right amount of salts (or whatever it is) or types......and u end up with off the wall actual temps instead of the standardized Kelvin scale.

That's why I always ran philips.

TRS is also supposed to have higher standards when it comes to QC compared to many places, and iirc they did work hands on with their manufacturers to establish their needs. Others like ddm can spit out cheap items due to a lower qc standard.

 

It's the cutoff.

On a proper projector, the light separates almost like a prism at the very edge of the cutoff. The oncoming driver will see blue when the cutoff is just below his line of vision. It fades back to white as the oncoming vehicle is farther or closer... or if the driver hits a bump/dip in the road, the oncoming driver will be a blue "flash" as the cutoff passes over his eyes.

A lot of OEMs have gone to a Fresnel lens to reduce the sharpness of the cutoff, and it also eliminates the blue line at the edge. It is better for oncoming drivers because the pattern more closely imitates halogens, and it gets away from the heavy intensity change when the driver hits a bump/dip.

 

55w 8000ks look nice light tint of blue but over time they will fade to a lighter whitish blue.

also of you arent going with projectors make sure they have the little shields on the bulbs or make your own so the cutoff isnt horrible looking
