1st gen Tacoma 3/16" steel plate IFS and transmission Skid Plates

The IFS skid with rack coverage fits well, but I don't see how it could have ever touched the sway bar without hitting the steering rack first. The sway bar has about an inch of clearance but the rack is almost touching (maybe 1/8" clearance at most).




The skid is pushed toward the rear of the truck as far as the mounting holes will allow.

Everything looks good though. The cuts are nice and smooth like they're laser or water-jet cut, looks like good press brake dies were used for the bends and the mounting holes all lined up perfectly. Nice, quality product.

 

Glad it works bbob! It is laser cut and press broke, so everything is smooth and crisp. The press brake dies leave little marks where they press the skids, but sanding helps that.

On my truck it was touching the sway bar before anything, but I do have a 3" lift so the bar sits at a different angle than yours when the suspension is not moving.

 

Finally finished my ghetto paint job with rustoleum etching primer and matte black. A little streaky, but hey its gonna get trashed anyway. Also, did not need spacers for my front diff drop. Everything lined up great.

The batman logo made it, minus the yellow paint, but I put good dent on the bottom front of it. It came down really hard on it.

 

Lol skids are designed to SKID across stuff. Glad they worked though. Your front diff would probably be broken otherwise.

 

For future reference, stainless bolts+stainless nuts=fail. They galled and I had to break em.

I bought some grade 8 to replace them.

 

Sorry for the inconvenience! Anti-seize for the win! I like stainless but you should anti-sieze any stainless to prevent galling. With the lock washers they don't need to be super tight to stay put, but grade 8 works too. I get a great deal on stainless so that's what I use.

 

I go through a bottle of it a month at work. The other techs think I'm crazy. Anything on the suspension, brakes, wheels anything I do and someone may be in there on a later date I put some one. My entire front end has it. Nice to know for when I put my lift on ill use more.

You even have the big bottle too! I just have a small tube right now. I try to use it on anything I put back on my truck, but I forget things too.

 

Hey man I'm interested in the skid plates as well but just gotta wait till taxes come back then I'm good to go. But the 100 shouldn't be any problem.

 

I've had mine for about 6 months and have put them to good use. I don't think I would have been able to drive home from Rausch Creek of Road Park in PA if I didn't have this skid. It's a tight fit, heavy and does what it's designed to do.

 

I'll subscribe to this thread and see when another batch is ready. I have been looking for skids for awhile now for some peace of mind.

Yours aren't stainless. They are grade 8. Notice how his are shiny.
