What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Filled with 94 Octane, I want to see if it makes any difference tomorrow on a long highway trip.

 

Hauled a bunch of Eldorado Stone Veneer yesterday:


Replaced my dented up chrome bumper with a straight black one today thanks to boatbuilder:

 

I want to know if it does-
I run 91 because I like to baby my new ride
But I have noticed no difference to speak of. With the knock sensors etc we have nowadays I don't think anything but your pocket will feel a change.

The 4.0 was designed to run on 91. It will "detune" for 87.
The 2.7 gains no benefit from 91.
The 4.0 will not get better fuel economy with 91... at least not enough to make up the $3.50 difference in a tank.

Running 91 is not "babying" an engine, it is not "giving it something it likes"
If the engine was not designed to run on 91, it is a waste of money. If it was, it is using the proper fuel.
The only difference between 91 and 87 is the resistance to preignition. There is no difference in BTU/power in the fuel itself. In the case of the 4.0, it will adjust the timing and fuel mixture slightly to compensate.

What about the addition of ethanol to the fuel? Is better to run a plus grade ethanol free or a super grade with corn mash?

Ethanol is not a good thing to put into any engine that was not designed to run on it.

I'd pay $0.50 more per gallon to get ethanol-free fuel if it were possible here in California.

 

I can get a few places and I'm thinking I may be better off with the ethanol free plus than the super with ethanol especially with my supercharger...

 

Do the marinas not sell it? They do here in Hawaii.

 

The reference web pages only list a couple of stations in the state... fleet fueling construction types.
If it's available in the marinas, it would be closer to $2/gallon more.
No road taxes, but the harbor taxes are horrible.
Most boat owner don't even buy gasoline at the marina.
Diesel? Ya... the red dyed Diesel is way cheaper than at the gas station.

I'm trying to decide which ones to get. I wanted Famous Fabs, but he's not doing it anymore. I was interested in Relentless, but don't want to wait 4 - 6 months for delivery. I sent Relentless a PM a while back and got no reply. So I'm still considering the many other options.

 

Keep in mind that ethanol (without getting overly technical) has over 30% less thermal energy than petroleum based fuels. This means you need at least 30% more to get the same power that you get from petroleum based fuels. This is why most people experience a drop off in fuel economy in the winter months in areas that add 10% ethanol to their standard pumps. If I could pay more to get fuel w/o ethanol I would, year round. I can't stand it and the marketing hype BS that accompanies it.

 

Dont expect to get one back. I sent one saying I had money and was ready to order just wanted an answer to one question and never got an answer back

 

Beefed taco sliders and pelfreybilt bumpers are next on my list. I missed out on the famous fab sliders too. They looked great.

 

So that's a yes to plus ethanol free>super with ethanol?
