Good work! And actually, nobody says it can't pull. Find me another mid size that can pull with such ease, and I'll shut my mouth haha.

How much weight on the trailer? Tongue weight?

the only way i could really tell roughly how much was in the trailer was how hard the pump was working to dump it, the trailer is rated for 12 000lbs gross weight, i believe the trailer weight is around 4000lbs, the trailer is spec'd to raise 4 tons. i was filling it til it could barely lift the load lol... then backing down my muddy backyard, didnt even spin the tires...

 you must have been way over the tow rating! That looks like a lot more than 2500lbs of mulch, plus the 4000lbs trailer.

Your tranny must have hated you. How far did you pull it?

6500 pounds on these trucks is alot, 4500 is fine, 5 is pushing it IMO.

Yes, if I recall correctly it is for the V6 with tow package. But I'd never put that much on mine.

Well, if you're just moving a trailer across the yard or down the street, you can go above rating and be okay. Pulling a 6500lb boat up a ramp or TT up a steep mountain will put more wear on your truck than moving a 10,000lb trailer across your yard, given the tongue weight isn't too much.

Should you do it often? No...can it be done safey...yes, if you have to and you're smart about it...

Good to see Tacomas workin hard... but yeah, crawling very heavy loads short distances isn't the same as "real" hauling.

    Nice,
I like the way my Taco tows. No, it aint no tundra, but mine has towed several loads right at 6000 lbs, no problem. Wet muddy field with lumber and blocks, right through when other construction trucks were getting stuck in it. Been over by quite a bit on one load for neighbor, across the field to sisters, no "road", 4 hi. Right up little wet rise.

If the Tundra can pull a space shuttle, i'm sure we can go a little over capacity with the Tacoma too once in a while! :D

a double axle trailer hauls allot better than a single axle. the two ankles take allot of weight off of the tongue.

    Why not?

6500lbs is the rated capacity of the truck with the tow package using the SAE standard J2807 rating system. I have pulled up to the limit of my truck with 800lbs in the bed as well. It pulls fine. It's working as any truck should be near or at its limits. It's a truck, built and meant to be used as as truck with-in its specs. Just take care of it and it will perform as needed when needed. Towing capacity is one of the main reasons I bought my Taco instead of a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Nissan, or any other truck of its size.

The OP hauled a heavy load for a very short distance and did fine. Is there extra wear and tear even for that distance, Yes, but he did not drag it over the hills and through the woods for miles on end like that. I have done the some thing.

Work it hard! It's meant to be!

I just don't trust my CBI Bumper's bolts to pull 6500lbs safely :p

10-4 on that. The bumper would be no good at that weigh but the Taco with the tow package has a frame mounted class 4 hitch.

Short distances, a one time thing no problem. But I would be cautious intepreting what that "6500" capacity really means if I wanted my tranny to last as long as the rest of the truck.

I am no expert, but I think the rating can be somewhat misleading, but I know there are good sources for info out there. I am thinking the methods allow them to advertise a "max tow" rating that is calculated based on zero passengers or driver, very little fuel, oil, or fluids weight, probably the base package before certain options are added, etc. etc.

And I know it is only for straight level travel only.
