I have a 09 Taco, and I was wondering if it is possible for the dealer (or myself) to program my truck to automatically lock the doors when I put it in gear, or go a certain speed, or anything like that. I have young kids and they like to mess with door handle and power windows etc, and I don't always remember to lock the door after we get going. I would hate to have one of them open the door going down the road. I have had other cars that do this, just wondering if it is possible.

I think mine does that, I wish it did not!

Hmm, so maybe it is possible through the dealer. I wouldn't worry about it so much except for the kids.

I have been looking into this for the same reasons as you. I have the factory installed alarm and nowhere in the alarm manual or the owners manual does it give the option. I'm certain it's possible, my '03 4Runner used to do it, and I think my '02 Tacoma used to as well. Anyone know the trick?

I don't know about the Tacoma because I don't get mine until Monday, however many cars allow you to open the door from the inside even if the door is locked. This is in case of fire or something so you can easily escape the vehicle. Something that most vehicles also have is child locks in the back. This makes it so the inside handle of the door is deactivated all the time and your kids wont be able to open the door. This is a little black switch that you slide to the side that is located on the side of the door. Look up "child safety lock" in the manual if you cant find it on your own.

Yeah, I know about a Child Safety lock, just gets to be annoying when there are adults in the back, you have to remember to turn it off and back on. Would just be nice not have to worry about it.

Yeah, I used to have an 01 4Runner, but I don't remember if it did it or not.

Exactly, when I get home from work I park in the garage and I get out without knowing the doors are locked. Then later or the next day I try to open one of the passenger doors and. . .hey they are locked! now I have to walk all the way around (I know, lazy) to unlock my doors.

Thanks I'll try it. . .I think I'll do this one with the garage door closed. My neighbors think I am weird enough, they don't need to see me slamming my doors over and over :D

LOL - Let us know how it works out. I'm giving option number two a try when I get home this evening.

Supposed to work for '01's and up with keyless entry. Can't verify it yet, though.

Not sure which model that link is referring to, but I tried option #2 five ways from Sunday and couldn't get it to take on my '09. *spits*

Sorry to have gotten your hopes up.
