My wife has driven "our" truck. She's just not that interested in driving it. She likes being a passenger in the truck and she loves driving "our" '12 Scion xB.

I don't have any back up vehicles either. Those pics were all taken over the last 16 years. Right now is the only time we've had both the FZJ80 and the Tacoma. But only recently was the Cruiser retired from Daily driver duty. My FJ40 was a daily driver till I sold it, my FZJ80 was my wife's daily driver, my Tacoma is a daily driver. It's not like I have a whole fleet of vehicles that I can just rotate through when something breaks.

for any of you that don't feel like is "capable" to drive your truck, how will that ever change if you never let her drive it? Give her some seat time for crying out loud. My wife wasn't always as "capable" or as "interested" as she is now. The interest didn't even really start until I let her drive more. Go figure. How many of you like being the passenger?

You guys that are getting all bent out of shape by my comments are proving my point. Relax a little! It's only a truck. But if you choose to be a controlling dick, you're absolutely right that you have that choice. Carry on, but you don't sound like you're much fun to be around.

Ok, so it took me forever to try to figure out what this "silhouette giving the peace sign" that everyone was talking about. I analyzed your sig pic, even zoomed on the door where it shows a small shadow and I could get no peace sign out of that shadow. But then I finally realized you had the pic in your photo gallery, doh. :p

Well said. My wife drives it quite a bit and is a very capable driver. She is learning to drive it more and more.

    6 pages of WOW....:D

Come on now, 1st time my wife took our '85 Hilux ( for you young'ns..the truck before the Taco :p ) she wanted to "play" and she quickly found out the "How too's" of turning manual hubs, moving that pogo into gear and proceeded to "wheel" with a 4 speed STICK ;)...

I am spoiled as she "takes interest" in everything I have driven, my Twin Stick Macks, all of the trucks WE have purchased;2 Petes and 2 Kenworths...yes ,she has driven them all and yes  there have been moments BUT everything including the 30 year marriage have survived ..

Would she prefer my Tacoma to her Lexus..HA HA HA HA....NO,that is exactly why I traded the Ridgeline for it....

Does she drive me "Nuts" when she drives the Taco..YES BUT she also makes my "scrap run" mid-week" for OUR beer $$$,encourages me to purchase what I need to keep it in one piece and ENJOYS "wheeling/traveling" with it...

He!! ,right now she is "pushing" me to upgrade to either an FJ or 4 door 2nd gen because our grandkids are like "weeds" in the growth department:D...

I know, Dam Old Man went on another rant BUT at times you young'ns make me laugh....:rofl:

Take the time to enjoy this life you so diligently "bust your a$$ " for...An extra button pushed might be for all the "right reasons"

Ill let anyone I know personally drive it if they want as long as they're good with a manual. Mom, dad, brothers, girlfriends, don't matter. I've never had a problem other than my dad smoking the clutch pulling my stupid brother out of an arroyo  original clutch still going strong at 187k.

First time I let a girl drive my car was when I thought her how to drive stick. Then one day we were chilling with our friends at a parking lot and I was sitting in front of my car. Long story short. She tried to show off her new driving skills. Ended up popping the clutch and almost ran my ass over.

In any case I don't let anyone drive my cars unless I trust them with it.

I used to be anal when I had my mustang but that was one of the reasons I got rid of it. I got my tacoma so I wouldn't have to worry about dings and scratches ect. I'm lucky enough to have a girl that tries to be interested in everything I do. I love it when she drives my truck. I love my truck but put her in the driver seat too.... damn what a turn on haha! She wants me to take her "mudding" when I get my lift and tires. Like others have said, I'm harder on my truck than she could ever be so who gives a shit what she does. It's a TRUCK.

On the contrary, I am great fun to be around. I just don't have the finances and resources to fix my truck every time I let my wife drive. And whether you believe this or not, some people don't have any business being behind the wheel of any vehicle. My wife is one of these people. She will also be the first one to say it. Point being, your wife may not have always been capable, but I would be willing to bet that she could drive a regular car on any given road without giving the DOT several road signs to fix or replace on a semi regular basis. So you can't rightly make such a broad statement calling us Dick's. There may be some in here, but maybe there is a reason to not let them drive. Everybody is in different situations, and mine dictates that i can't afford my wife practicing to become proficient with my truck.

Doesn't sound like your wife should be on the road at all from that description. Good luck my friend.

Also I should probably say, someone like you sounds like you have a legit reason for not letting your wife drive your truck. Fair enough. If that's the case, that's cool. The ones I think are dumb are the ones who don't have any reason but just say, "I don't let anyone drive my truck but me, especially my GF." Those are the guys that need to grow up.

Is your wife crossed-eyed or something?

How can you possibly obtain a driver's license and be that deficient behind the wheel?

to derail this thread before it gets locked....

Anyone who I have ever seen touch their cellphone while driving (including stopped at a stoplight, yes, it is still ILLEGAL :mad::mad::mad::mad:) will never drive my truck.

Outside of that, if something that should not have failed while they're driving fails, it's their responsibility and they know that.

That being said, my sweetheart doesn't know how to drive a manual AND checks her phone while driving :frusty:

    it is hereditary. Asian.

    seriously

but really, she needs pretty much no distraction at all. she severely over thinks while she is driving. which is worse.

Checking a phone at a stop light? really? if they aren't moving and texting I don't care. Big deal. lawful or not. no different than searching for a radio station or looking away from the road ahead to watch that sweet ass walk down the sidewalk. Texting whilst in motion I will agree with, but not while at a stop sign/light.

I'm a motorcyclist and have been clipped before by people on their cellphones so it's a pretty serious thing to me.

Plus, living in the bay area you're lucky to see someone who ISN'T on their cell phone during commute hours.

    Just my .02

Ok time out folks  This was supposed to be a corny little thread about venting and coping... :( I'm glad you both kept your cool and made some really good points, thank you for sharing. :)

I would ask that you please not derail this thread into a "Wonderful things our GF/BF/Spouse do when they drive our rigs and I'm here to brag about it" VS "Stupid things he/she have done and I'm here to take the keys away".

I would like to continue to hear more from those who have had issues similar to mine, for example, that still allow sh*t to happen to their precious rigs, but keep it to themselves (cause they know better -the happy wife is a happy life rule) and rant about it here as an outlet .

For those of you who have already participated, stayed on topic and shared your experiences that where similar to mine, thank you for your entertaining and funny as hell responses :p:D;):):D!!! I'm feeling much better that I'm not alone! ;)

I had a GF years ago that called me all distraught because her explorer wouldn't go into 4LO.

She was driving 60mph on the highway over the mountains and when it started to snow she figured she should put it in 4WD or hell, even better, 4LO (by pushing the button while going 60).

Fortunately the car, and it's push-button actuators were smarter than her.

my gf doesn't drive my truck, evar. mainly because it's a manual and she doesn't know what to do with that thing that is supposed to be a footrest.
