I just got me one of those rear view license plate cameras, and wanted some help on wiring it up. I know how to wire it up, but i wanted some info on where you ran the wire, how you went into the cab. also with my Kenwood, it's asking to install a wire to the backup lights. Any suggestions on that one?

Run the camrea wire next to the frame on the driver side.. Once you get to the cab, you'll see drain plugs in the floor, use one of those.. make sure you seal it properly.

The reverse wire for the back-up cam will be in the driver side kick panel.

thanks JDrew. So will this allow the rear view camera to turn on automatically when i throw the truck into reverse? Or will i have to turn the deck to av in? Also, will I be able to view the camera while going forward?

Yes, that wire will send the signal needed for when you place your truck in reverse which will give you the reverse view, provided you have the radio settings for it to do so. (Meaning it is designed for a rear camera in mind. The radio should have a specific rca for the reverse cam, usually yellow.)

If you unit will allow the camera to be displayed while moving, this can be tricky. It depends if the camera has to be wired to the reverse wire too. If so, then it wont. You would then have to run the camera reverse wire to a 12 volt lead then it would work anytime you decide to view it. Some cams dont require the cams to be spliced into the reverse wire.

so if i do go into a 12v connection, that means the camera will be always on? Unless i switch it? Or if I put it into the accessory switch?

Not knowing your camera wiring, I'm guessing. Tell me what wiring comes with your cam.

1 yellow rca video out. And 1 mini adapter plug with red+ and black- coming out the other end. That's all there is.

Sounds like to me that you have a video lead (RCA), power and ground. Pretty simple it sounds like. Power wire to key switched 12v, black to ground and your RCA to cam input on hu.

    JDrew,
Do you know how to tap into the factory camera? I have a Kenwood DDX514 which will allow for camera view, but I have a factory camera on the handel of the tail gate.

If I'm looking at the same connector in my 09 Access Cab, the wiring colors are are different. I appear to have a solid red wire instead of the red/white wire. No voltage appears on this wire when I put the truck in reverse (but the reverse lights are on).

Did they move this wire around for 09 or am I just crazy?
