I have an '08 PreRunner SR5 with the 4.0L, a 4" Pro-Comp lift, 35" Nitto Trail-Grapplers on 18" wheels. My current mpg is from 9-12mpg, depending on city or highway and how much of a hurry I'm in. What are the most efficient ways to increase mileage? Supercharge, chip, or program? What's the best exhaust to go with? Banks now makes an exhaust, has anyone reviewed it? I don't really want to drop tire size as I'm constantly receiving compliments on my truck, but I commute 300+ miles to work and fuel is killing me. Thank you for all feedback.

you have a lifted truck and your complaining about gas mileage.

supercharger isnt going to help, programmers dont work, exhaust if it does work will be unnoticable and not worth the money

buy a camry if you want gas mileage

Save money and buy a craigslist beater honda. There is nothing you can do except going back to stock that will make a difference.

    ^^^These

Everything you mentioned will not work. If you want mileage sell your truck and buy a Prius. It's all in your priorities. You either go with something a little closer to stock and skip out on the compliments or you stay the way it is and suffer the mileage.

Supercharge? = $5000 (little to no mileage increase and you would have your foot in it more)

    Chip? = Don't make them

    Program? = Haven't seen one

If the mileage is killing you like you say it is... then change your driving style in the mean time. You say "Depending on how much of a hurry I'm in"??? Slow down.

None of the mods you listed improve gas mileage. Remember, the mods are designed to improve breathing at full throttle. They don't improve efficiency at part throttle. The supercharger requires 91 octane, BTW.

Did you regear after getting the larger tires? Otherwise your odometer would be off. 9-12 mpg indicated with 35" tires would be 10-14 mpg actual.

Not trying to be an ass but what did you expect? You drive a truck with a 4" lift with 35" tires on 18" wheels???

The most efficient way to increase your mileage is to sell your truck and buy a car. Other than that, enjoy your truck because it sounds like it looks nice. But you're pretty much stuck with shitty mileage.

Do people not research mods like lifts, big tires etc? Threads like this keep coming up of people complaining about the shit gas mileage. You should do your own research before you do the mod so you know what you're getting into before you do it.

The only other option to improve mileage is to trade for a 5-lugger 4 cyl., and keep it stock if you want to keep driving a Tacoma and get decent mileage.

I drive 112 miles a day, 3 to 4 days a week for work.....6" lift, 35's & my mileage is consistantly 17.5 mpg or better (almost all highway). Drive like a granny while accelerating and keep the rpm's below 2K.....it'll get better.

I don't think anyone seriously suggested selling. You could get a commuter car for your long commutes to work and keep the Taco.

No... I'm not selling mine but I'm also not the one complaining about fuel mileage in a truck that is running 35" tires. I consistently get 22 MPG so I'm happy with it. Like everyone else on here has said, with those mods you are not going to do much to increase your mileage. So you have to decide if you want all the compliments or if you want mileage simple as that. If you did all the mods and expected good mileage then you should have researched it a little better. If you bought the truck that way you should have researched it a little better also.
The only other thing you can do is drive slower and not get hard on the gas. That's about it.

CAI - no gain in mileage
Cat back exhaust - no gain

The list goes on and on. Good luck;)

The tires you are running are some of the heaviest 35s out there. I too run 35s but they are bfg ats and get a consist 15 mpg city/highway mix. My best investment for mpg was my $1500 94 camry lol
