Also I'm sending my fork into Fox on Monday to get a service overhaul, then I'm going to start working on rebuilding the rear shock

I'm thinking about purchasing a mtn bike for myself but I'm not sure where to start. Ive been measured at 23" frame as I'm 6'7" by a local shop. However I'm looking for some honest opinions, not what the sales people have to offer. I dont have a ton of jack to throw at a rig, but I understand that at my size, the bike wont be super cheap. I'm looking to get back into riding. Haven't been on a bike in years. I want something that is capable of riding gentle fire roads, but not overkill around town on the canals.

    So... any good starting points?

    Cheers

for what you want it sounds like you don't want or i should say need any rear suspension, i would recommend disc brakes just because almost every thing is disc now when it comes to MTB. A solid bike i can think of for you would be like a Specialized Hardrock or maybe even a Hardrock 29er or just something along those lines, do you know what brands your shop carries? Just because you are taller the frame size wont go up in price at least it shouldn't i cant think of any bikes where they charge more for a larger frame, maybe in road where its measured different but as far as a MT bike with standard sizes like S, M, L, XL etc that shouldn't change the price.

Id like to get one but they are so expensive. $250 for the factory rails then like $160 for the yakima bar...

Just fold down your seats, take off the front wheel, insert the bike rear tire first, turn the bars 90 degrees so they are paralell with the frame and slide her in :D

yea I use mapmyride as well and its not that accurate on trails. Mine will show a shorter distance up to a mile or two less than we actualy rode. On the street it is accurate though.

I had that issue with MapMyRide on a previous phone. I am now using a GS3 that has a strong GPS signal at all times. I also ride with a cyclocomputer, when I compare now with this phone, it is usually accurate to within a 10th of a mile.

If you do it at home, you'll learn how to fix a broken chain on the trail. It's pretty easy-I'd do it myself.

If you need help, there are a ton of videos that'll demonstrate the procedure.

Paid $65 for my enduro race this weekend. Got ODI grips and One socks for signing up. And then in the raffle later I won a One hat, some coffee, and a Kenda Honey Badger Pro tire! I think I came out on top. Good thing, i needed a new tire. My Hans Dampf is getting low in the rear.

Anyone have experience with this tire? Im gonna run it on the front and swap my Hans Dampf from front to rear.
