When I did mine I didn't even bother trying to turn the front bolt on the springs lol. I just busted out the angle grinder and cut away. Ended up cutting off the u-bolts too just because I could :)

It has nothing to do with quality or power of the spark. The V6 coils fire once every engine rotation and fire 2 plugs at the same time. one cylinder is in the firing position the other is not, hence one name of this type of ignition is "Wasted Spark". Because the plugs fire twice as many times as typical systems and would wear out in 1/2 the time there are 2 electrodes to increase plug life.

Here is a description from Toyota themselves. This is all I have done today, so far.

Waste spark is only at idle. Almost every manufacture has their own version of it. The older rangers had 8 plugs on a 4 cylinder. The hemi rams have 16 plugs. They fire twice to burn off any hydro carbons to reduce emissions.
rusy4ava_a194e32f0f2e98436fdcfa005dbd857bfed7e459.jpg the initial spark then there is a brief dwell then a spark is wasted after the dwell. Not long. Here is another diagram for others

Not so on the Toyota V6. Look at the diagram, specifically the secondary coil circuit. Both plugs must fire at the same time in series at all speeds.
Toyota did this to save on components, 3 coils instead of 6.

In your upper chart the 2 peaks represent this, from http://rockledge.home.comcast.net/~rockledge/RangerPictureGallery/DIS_EDIS.htm

"The spark plug on the compression stroke uses the majority of the coil’s stored energy, while the other spark plug, on its exhaust stroke, uses very little of that energy. This occurs because of the much higher cylinder pressure that is generated on the compression stroke. The higher the pressure, the greater the electrical resistance. Accordingly, greater voltage is necessary to overcome the increased resistance of the highly-compressed air-fuel mixture. In a nutshell, the amount of pressure in a cylinder - and the associated electrical resistance that it creates - determines which spark plug (compression stroke) gets the majority of the coil's voltage, and conversely, which plug (exhaust stroke) gets the "waste" voltage."

I was speaking of Fords DIS and EDIS. I understand their system completely not Toyota. I learned something new today lol. Atcleast Toyota designed theirs so it would last unlike you know who lol.

Dont say that. Read it and learn how your truck works and you will have a better idea if something ever were to happen.

Meh, they made some noise but didn't fly off or anything. My driver side main eye bolt shot off like a rocket though. Horray for safety glasses.

Here ya go, from a 99 FSM. In addition read this recent thread. Start at post #23 for the relevant stuff and don't skip the TTORA link in post 28. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/280702-e-locker-actuator-2.html

Note that the FSM pages below are for an actuator install with the diff removed. For install on an installed diff (with the 2 long studs in place) see the above thread.
