After hauling the trailer an hour away with it packed full of track stuff I wish I had gone the route of the Tundra I think. I'm doing way more towing then I thought I would and the great little 4.0 just doesn't have the torque to hold a decent highway speed. Especially up hills!

    Would the supercharger be sufficient...

    Hmmm

There is also that company that sells teh turbo kits for Tacos. The bad part is they mount them underneath which I don't understand why they would ever to that on a truck.

How much trailer are you hauling?

My truck will hold 75 on the highway pulling my 16FT enclosed, Im not going to claim the gas mileage was very good. The only thing that slowed me down was a strong headwind.

And you already have a better towing motor.

    Towing this:
    2083fb924b26d6e136956aa5669f4d61_zps3b87_b360a705008552031b7ddf345ddd99cc7d58dc7a.jpg

6'x12' all aluminum. Weight is 1100ish. Plus 420lb bike and maybe another couple hundred pounds in extras(table, cooler, chairs etc). Had a hard time holding 70 on very minimal grades and it did NOT have enough torque to go into OD. Which at that weight I would think you should be able to.

Jay I laughed my ASS off when I saw that!

There is mild to wild there. Stick to the easier trails and you should be ok. It should be fun! I like the Gravel Pit as it is called.

Paint shows abuse more than anything else though. I'll think about it.

Matt you really shouldn't have any problem hauling that now. Try hauling it going 65 and 75 and see if there is an improvement. Used to have a Tundra to haul with and I was never impressed with the 4.7. It was constantly searcing for a gear and could only keep its speed up with it pinned.

Maybe we should meet up at Rocks and Valleys the 22nd?

I am game for whatever. If people want to do a meet at my house I have some local wheelers I will also get together.

Don't know what's going the 22nd but can make it a goal to get up there at least.

If I floor it, the truck pulls decent for having weight back there. Just seems like being right around 1500-1700lbs I should be able to go down the road in OD not 4th. I'd never get a Tundra with a 4.7. Too large...I'd sacrifice mileage and get the 5.7.

Well, the owners manual does say to not drive in D and not to exceed 65mph. I guess I will try these options, knowing that gas mileage is possibly as bad as a full size truck. Thinking I might have had too much weight at the nose maybe I will shift some things around too.

I'm heading to that Toyota event at R&V on the 22nd. I'll be taking the fj out there since it has a locker and flexes a bit more.

BTW we are going to be tearing down and starting the rebuild on the Cherokee that didn't survive Silver Lake. So if anyone was planning on coming my way we will be working all day and BBQ bonfire at night. PM me if you need a location.

If you have any projects you would like help with we can get you squared away.

There wer only 4 of us there at R&V for the Toyota thing. We will defintely make it a big event next year. I didn't realize what they were trying to do until I talked to the lady that is a ranger there. Exopect a much bigger and better event next year. Mark June 21st on your calendars!

If you happen to spot this magazine on the newsstands, pick it up! My article is in there on our UP camping trip last year.

cool I will look for the magazine.

I should be able to get to R&V next year. Still going to make it this year, just have to figure out a whole weekend that works which has been difficult. Its about a 4 hour drive so not worth it unless there for multiple days.

Headed to Bundy Hill on the 20th. Anyone want to go? Should have a good group, sounds like at least 8 trucks.

I am looking to go from the Lansing area to the Traverse City are hitting as few paved roads as possible. It will be a ridiculously long trip but I'm not worried about that. Any suggestions on a good route I can take? Nothing too extreme. Just looking to run some unimproved roads and some two tracks. I'm sure that if anyone would know it would be all of you fellas. Thanks.

You will have a tough time doing that in the LP. You can get through the middle of the state no problems doing that though but not sure about getting that far over. If you want nothing back backroads, cross the UP. Much easier to do and much more scenic!

Get a Michigan Gazeteer and start studying would be my advice.
