I know this is an overly asked question, but through the threads I've read I haven't gotten a clear answer on what to get.

I'm wanting to add in either a catback or a muffler, but I'm unsure of which to get. Overall, I just want my '13 to have a nice deep growl when I'm driving. Performance would be a plus, but isn't a big deal for me.

    Thanks everyone!

Yeah everytime iv'e read anything about aftermarket exhaust on a Taco, you'll never get that V8 growl that probably every Tacoma owner would love.
I have a magnaflow and it growls pretty nice at low RPM but once you really get moving, that growl is long gone and back to some pretty nice rice ahah

    this.

    same.

get just the muffler. dont waste money on the catback.

theres a lot of work that would need to be done to make use of the larger diameter piping from a cat back.

haha, ya im with Leo on this one. These V6's just don't produce that deep sound you want. I have the TRD catback and it sounds pretty good, once you get on it though it sounds like a sewing machine. Don't get me wrong you can get that sound out of other V6's just not ours.

lol also i had a flowmaster 40 with stock 2.5" pipes and it was a loud raspy sound.

now have a magnaflow that came off of god knows what and has a nicer deeper tone at lower rpms. also on the stock 2.5" pipe but i put a down turn before the axle.

I love that deep tone, sometimes i'll leave a light at 1500RPM just to hear that sexy sound ahaa.

I'm just being a dick but I come from big V8's and nothing sounds sexy on a 4.0 V6 :)

Check out YouTube video with "wicked flow exhaust." I got the 18" bc I wanted the deep sound but not a highway speed (that dull droning sound). The next loudest is the 13", but that was too red neckish for my taste. I like the low growl performance sound that I get from the 18". Check em out

One of the good sounding ones is "wicked flow.mp4" (That's the title). Beginning is dumb but 50 sec in and I thinks it's good to go

    n/a = get a muffler

magna sound decent, but its no V8 rumble

flowmaster are said to cost us HP, the 40 series drones at highway speeds something awful, but sounds great at idle IMHO.

    forced induction= larger cat back.
