Ya'll realize that AT&T let the NSA monitor traffic almost 10 years ago right?

Be pissed at the companies that let the gov have access to their information.

    OP, PM inbound.

Also, Patriot Act has been used against drug dealers a metric shitton more than against terrorists.

When I read Orwell's "1984" in high school I never though it would ring so true. Where do we draw the line? It's bad enough with bills like the Patriot Act, the NDAA, and now this? What the fuck? Where does it end? Will a day come where they just say fuck the constitution this is how it will be, deal with it?

During WWII the SS rounded up Dutch Jew's extremely efficiently due to detailed information the Dutch government had on which religion everyone belonged to. This was not a secret or designed with malicious intent, they were simply detailed in their record keeping. I am sure that nobody thought it would be a problem to have this information stored.

For those that say, "Why should people care about surveillance?" 1) See example posted above 2) Mr. Snowden hit the nail on the head. "Because even if you're not doing anything wrong you're being watched and recorded. The storage capability of the systems increases every year to the point that you don't even have to have done anything wrong. You simply have to eventually fall under suspicion by somebody, even by a wrong call. Then they can use the system to go back in time and scrutinise every decision you've ever made, every friend you've ever discussed something with and attack you on that basis to sort of derive suspicion from an innocent life and paint anyone into context of a wrongdoer."

I hope I never see that day, then again I hoped I'd never see the day where our government decides to spy on its own people. Write your reps, senators, and POTUS tell them you won't stand for it they may not care but they should and if you ask me anyone involved should die a traitors death. It's a damn shame what America has come to and frankly I'm embarrassed to call myself an American sometimes when we constantly let "big brother" go unwatched, unchecked, and unaccountable for its actions. Know your history or it's bound to repeat itself and god damn it America get your shit together. Edward Snowden is a great true American hero one of the few left and it's a shame that he has to hide in Hong Kong, China waiting until some government goons in power decide it's time for him to commit "suicide."

Just keep your head looking forward, Dont ask questions and do what you want and what you need as long as it isn't infringing onto anyone else's safety. Unfortunely i think our country is turning a blind eye to the real problems at hand.

How does that Ben Franklin quote go? They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Reminds me of the liberty tree that must be fertilized with the blood of a patriot from time to time.

We never tend to learn for long. Recession number 1 should have affected enough american citizens for us to somehow write into legisilation exactly how to prevent, Deter and conquer such major american history.

    Yeah.
We have too many people making a living off of the government or at least being heavily subsidized, thinking the evil corporations are the big problem, refusing to acknowledge that it's those same corporations and people that work for them that are the ones paying, and believing they have every right to the same American dream as everyone else. Entitlement. They are not going to bite the hand that feeds them, why should they? Their employer understands this and uses it as leverage.

It is all fine and good that we monitor the bad guys but when the data mining is used to take our guns or god forbid take our trucks because they use to much gas then we get outraged. In NY state they are already using data to go after gun owners.

We give an inch of freedom and you can bet they will take a mile of liberty from us.
