last time i did a set of upper ball joints i just used a socket and a BFH.. ask ben he knows it was on his runner.

 

We removed mine with a big socket am a BFH. Just took a lot of pounding

 

it's like you knew i was gonna post or something.

 

Ended up picking up a $30 puller

Rofl!! All that hassle, then 30 bucks and 45 seconds and bam, done. You lose!

 

Now I just need to find out how to get the slug in the spindle haha

 

Do you have a propane torch? Put the unibal slug in the freezer, get it good and cold. The use the torch to warm up the spindle a bit. The frozen slug should pound in fairly easily. You might also be able to flip over that puller and "push' the slug in from below.

 

Or I can just flip that pulled upside down and thread in the bolt a little and HOLY FUCK I JUST BLEW MY OWN FUCKING MIND

so when I popped the bj free of the arm, i had the LCA propped but not the spindle...


and im not sure if I just drooped out the cv or if I accidentally pulled the internal out of the diff

but I pushed it back in and propped it up now....

Would the only way to check my stupid be to throw it into 4wd later and try see wtf happens? haha

 

If you are wondering if the axle is all the way back into the diff, I think if it wasn't you would know it when you try to line up the spindle and new UCA. there is almost no extra room for the axle to move in or out.

Is this what you are asking? Does this make sense?

When it fell out, the spindle was at almost a 45 degree angle away from the diff.... realized how fucking stupid I was and pushed it back in.... Though I still have movement in the spindle now.

That's when I noticed all the air sucking/blowing out of my inner CV boot. (whistle)

Since I have all these tools and shit now, guess my next step is to swap the CV

 

Hopefully the rest of it will go smoothly.

And this slug insertion tool to pull it into the top of the spindle. Washers, short piece of pipe, bolt, nut...freeze...

I always built in a huge cushion into my spendings/earnings and I guess this is where that cushion deflates haha
