don't think it would work. not the right air flow in that area

    What was said above ^^^^^^

The hood scoop lies in a low pressure area of the hood. Cutting it open and trying to make it "Fuctional" would ACTUALLY have ait flow OUT of it. If anythg, air would be stopped from the pressure differential between the underhood air psi.

Put some LEDs behind the mesh and mod it into the truck version of knight rider. Then get yourself a sassy leather jacket and some boss medallions.

i did it. there is no change in power or performance, good or bad....the only thing that changes is that you can say it works lol. if you have lots of free time and like experimenting with things, go for it. but it not, i'd spend your time on a different mod.

You can say "It works", but your not getting any ram effect, and the low pressure could be working against the air being sucked into the engine. Not to mention the extra pluming the air has to travle thru...Without running it on a dyno, your not going to be able to say "No change in power" with any accuracy.

    no worries

yeah, i should have said that right off...by "no noticeable change", i meant to what a human can feel, but to something more sensitive, like a dyno, you may find differently, but since i can't feel a change i'd be willing to guess that if the dyno found one, it wouldn't be more than 1 or 2 hp in either dirrection. thanks for catching that chris

I wonder if it would lower the overall temp of the engine bay and whatnot. That could be beneficial...

There was a guy on TN who did it. He actually made sealed ducts direct to the air intake box so the Neg. pressure from the Grill air coming in didn't have any effect on the intake.
Since the stock intake sucks air from the right fender, he needed to close off that port.
IMHO, it's not worth the hassle.

Actually, the air comming from the gril is high pressure, when the vehicle is in motion. By doing what he did, his engine is now working harder to suck the air from the scoop, as the scoop lies in a low pressure area of the hood. The factory location is actually a high pressure, and a cold air location. The only intakes that have shown a dyno gain over the factory location, have been the TRD, and the URD. Everyone else I have tested has shown the same (or within the margine of error of the dyno) or less.

Does anyone have the airstream data to show exactly where the flow is located in relation to the hood? I'm not being a smartass, but would seriously like to look into this a little deeper than someone just saying so without data. Tons of functional scoops in the early years and they did not have much height over the hood.

Different hoods with scoops in different positions.

There have been several threads about this topic with photos and full research studies about pick up truck air flow. There is a low pressure point there.

If you needed a fictional scoop, is there possibly an aftermarket scoop that is taller that would fit ascetically and reach the airflow zone.
Not that i want to do this to my truck, it's easier to add around 75HP by replacing the standard air intake already installed on the vehicle.
