I think one major thing to consider is if you have the time to take your truck out of commission to do the job. If all went well, you should be able to do it in a weekend... but I wouldn't count on that. If you have the time and want the experience... do it. If not, than start shopping.

This morning one of my BAMF sliders saved me from acquiring a fat door dent! :D

Details to the story via my build thread here

Here's a shot I simulated where I carefully opened our sienna's wide passenger door next to the driver's side of my taco. Notice the edge of the Sienna's door would have impact into the slider and not my taco's side door. There is so much win here! :D

Finally cleaned up the truck. Also I dipped the fender trim and painted the lock cylinder on the tank lid black a few weeks ago but this pic shows both.

It's a rare option to have an auto and 4 banger. But it's totally possible. Same auto as a v6.

Tricky part could be finding gears for your truck in a diff that is set up. You'll have to check you diff code to see if you have 4.10s, 4.30s, or rare 4.56s

Really shouldn't be that hard. Pretty much everything will bolt right up. Wiring and ecu swap will be a tad tricky..

    But totally do able.

Now if you can't afford to have the truck on jack stands for like 4 months then yea. Just sell it.

Talk to afroman. He converted his prerunner to a 4x4. Not sure what he has for engine and transmission though.

Finally got around to installing my Pioneer SPH-DA100 (AppRadio 2) head unit :D Am I the only one here running this on a 1st gen? I've seen a few who have them on their 2nd gens.

I currently have mine running using WAZE as my car navigation. I love the real time police alerts, traffic alerts, etc. It works really nice with this head unit and plan to hook up a backup camera to this Pioneer.

I hope to have a first impressions review of this unit on my build shortly.
