Front caliper problem

I'm trying to replace the pads on the front of my 2004 tacoma and the pins that hold the pads in the caliper are seized. I tried using PB blaster and hammering them out but its not working. Anyone have any solutions?

 

i had that problem when i did mine a while back too. let the pb blaster sit for a bit, then use a pair of needle nose pliers to kinda squeeze the first bit of the pin, then it should break loose. after you get them out....use steel wool on them to clean off the rust.

 

You're gonna have to work those pins out. Like will said, PB blaster is your friend. Can you tap them out with a punch?

 

I can't get a grip on the pins with the needle nose pliers and the pins wont budge if i try to tap them out

 

try using a pair of slip joint pliers...big ones if you have them,one end on the pin...other end on the caliper and see if you can push them out that way.

 

Reviving this thread due to .I HATE THOSE PINS

I went to do the brakes today and THOSE pins were a PIA....
Even after pre-soaking them last weekend,they still did not move and being there are boots plus pistons in there...Heat wrench stayed packed...

My answer; 1) cold chiseled the end off 2) center punched the end and drilled through the inside hole 3) long prick punch and small ball pean did the rest 4) wire brushed the holes [5)trip to advance auto for new pins;$7.49 ] 6) pull old pads and shims 7) clean all old parts and slides
8) install new pads with old shims 9) install new pins and "Shake" clip,plus pin clip...check under hood for brake fluid level,then push pedal to seat pads 10) install tires and test drive work....

Considering there are "young'ns" reading this I left out the beverage consumption,cussing and Moms laughter..she gave me the ride to "Parts store"
#5 can be a fore thought (Buy the pins when you buy your parts ) and save yourself some time...

The only other problem that occured,my "Need" to "MOD" my truck...clean and paint all chassis parts not replaced during "frame swap"( 4-5 cans black paint) paint cailpers & drums green to match cab colors( 2-3 cans paint) and actually find time to buy my TOOLBOX..

This place is addictive BUT a great knowledge base too

knock on wood, as far as i know i still have my original pins from toyota. I havent had any problems with them.

That was my problem...those were the originals......1st set of brakes in 7 years( 44,000 miles) and the oems said f/u.....one of the 4 came out,2 came out after drilling and the 4th looked more like a pretzel........best thing is,those were cheap parts to replace , the calipers and rotors were fine....
