Hey guys I've been looking to beef up my hp on my v6. Finally got her out on the track the other weekend and while 15.3 1/4 mile makes me happy I want to drop it down more. I already have a flow master american thunder dual pipe cat back exhaust. Was thinking about a programmable chip as well. I'm going for speed so what do you all suggest? Thanks in advance!

the chip is worthless. it does absolutely nothing. an intake and exhaust is laughable at best as far as any improvement. best thing you can do is go forced induction.

I suggest not trying to use simple cheap bolt on upgrades. To make a real track truck - You gotta go big. Forced induction, real engine internal work, body/frame lightening, etc..

    For speed? Hmmm... a Vette?

To get these bricks rollin, your gonna have to spend some time and money. Like others have said, FI, engine work, etc.

I keep hearing about FI. What is it and what does it include maybe a link. Money isn't the issue and no chevys thanks  and chips are no good? I've heard good things about the programable ones. I just wanna make sure I'm maximizing my efforts. Thanks guys.

    Forced induction...............super charger or turbo.
Urd and trd have blower kits.

U want hp, its gunna cost ya, set aside a good 5-7 grand as a starting point to see any decent numbers.

Just keep in mind, the truck can be "quick" but not "fast" or furious

Well then... Turbo is about 2 years away. Any sugesstions for higher end hp gains on a set of headers and intake system?? Or a good website that compares the power gains? Thanks again for all the answers!

They will barely do anything it's a waste of money. This is not a 72 Chevy 350 motor where you can open up the exhaust and slap on a bigger carb and make power. If you want power gains you're gonna need a supercharger or turbo. If you went all out with bolt ons, intake headers exhaust pulleys, after couple thousand dollars, you might see small gains. With that money you could snatched up a used trd supercharger and make the power you are looking for.

You could also try to do a lot of weight reductions. I think every 100lbs or so will shave a 10th in the qtr, all other things equal.

If money isn't an issue then buy a track "car".

But... Like others have said... SuperCharger. Only way to get the power you are apparently looking for.

As you can tell, there are not to many people into the speed thing here.

Intakes - There are tons of them. Some people complain about drone so you might look into a sealed intake.
Exhaust - You can get everything from the headers on back. URD makes a great y-pipe and you have several header choices depending on how loud you can stand it.
Chip - There isn'a a magic chip out there, but you do have the URD Mass Air flow and Timing calibrator. It will do what you want, but you have to do it and you have to know what you are doing or you will cause damage.

    http://urdusa.com/Electronics-Perfo...ow-Fuel-&-Timing-Calibrator/product_info.html

The easiest way to go fast is to pick up the TRD supercharger. Install it yourself and have the computer flashed and everything is done for you.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Mikey, just the answer I was looking for. I know shes not build for speed but when you beat a Dodge 1500 Hemi down the track people start to ask questions lol. Just looking to shave a little time off and beat the 350z in my club (hes our fastest import). Gotta love friendly competition...:D Thanks again guys!

I dunno about that... its just that for the question he was asking there wasn't a good point in answering it completely because the only real answer is supercharger or turbo in this case. The I/H/E supporting mods are great if you are already boosted, but I can guarantee that all of that stuff is not worth it on a stock truck only when boosted does it really matter.

There are some gains to be had while staying NA (naturally aspirated). XRU would be your best resource as most on this board are not that much into high rpm straight line perf upgrades that only shave a tenth or two off your 1/4 mile times. Note that most of the NA upgrades only help some at the high end of the rpm scale (3500+ or so), and can steal some power from the low end of the rpm scale. Like most things in life, it's all a trade off.

As look for some posts by Torsp and/or toon714 on here, they are neck deep in performance upgrades, downside is that they are both FI, but Torsp has some good input on NA upgrades.

Personally, I have tried a few upgrades (all NA, lower buck things), and then test using my older GTech meter (gtechpro.com). I tried a TRD catback, measuring no improvement, I tried a couple of homegrown intake upgrades, no improvement, I tried the aFe Stage II SI intake and the URD CAI, both of these showed about a tenth improvement.

I also have put a URD MAF Calibrator on, but have not run times with it as yet. I would also like to install some shorty headers but can't get by the install cost. If you are looking for high rpm improvement though, look into some long tubes. Again, for high rpm NA improvements look to XRU and URD for info.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

this is in a Tacoma? certainly not stock.....

While not ripping on the trap time, my street '55 Chevy with a few tweaks ran low 14's most all the time, 265 bored to 292, 327 FI heads, Holley 850, Muncie close ratio 4 speed, headers, few other tweaks, I question the 15.3 on a stocker, but, hey, I don't drag anymore....
