Any wheeling planned for 6 July? Debating making a run up to Hard Rock or just going to Suburban Estates and tootling around.

So I got a new job as a "mechanics assistant/trainee" at a local small engine repair shop...walk in today on my FIRST DAY... have yet to fill out any paperwork /tax info cuz they cant get it together. then get thrown into jobs to do by myself having no idea WTF im doing with no experience and no training...

some people these days...time to keep looking for a job

oh..and funny quote of the day. "i guess you dont have your own tools huh...guess you can use mine for now" .... i hate half ass people

like i know how to turn a wrench...im no stranger to that and can work on my truck..but when it comes to engine internals and such....no lol

I bet he would have had a fit if you did have it together and started making him look slow or stupid.

FWIW, small engines are easy, and a great way to get a solid base for working on larger stuff. Honestly I would consider small engines and your own stuff like motorcycles to make you learn. Then you will now how to repair and not just guess and change parts.

You might need to pay a few dues, but it could turn around. If you have tools, put together a small box of common stuff right away and ask the other guy if he can suggest more that are not too expensive.

I would bet he has seen this exact situation 100's of times before, and most will end with the person leaving for another job.

Small engine mechanics is a great skill set to have .. I don't know how many times I have used that knowledge to help others
Not to mention this time of year it's a busy market and lots of $$ to be made

thats the problem...im not looking to get into purchasing a bunch of tools...have no where to put em still living at home and have other things i prefer to spend my money on...dad has all his tools but im not gunna use those for something else. I was hoping this would be a good way to build a skillset and the job was misrepresented as a training position instead of a full time mechanic. im just a college kid trying to put some money in his pocket to fund his true love...fishing. this guy sounds like hes looking for an actual full time mechanic over somebody who is interested in learning if somebodys willing to actually teach.

i have no problem tinkering and figuring things out on my own...but I damn sure am not going to do it on somebody elses machines and charge them for it when I know that something could get fucked up.

That's why, last Saturday, Hill organized a toy gun trade-in program at his school. In exchange for their faux firearms, kids could get free books and a shot at a new bike. As part of the safety-themed event, police officers and firefighters also came in to talk to the kids. Hey, can't be too safe in the nanny state .
