a locked sr5 would be an offroad, your complaining about the smaller diff yet you want a locked sr5, if sr5 had it locked it would be a smaller diff so your kind of going against yourself

"wonder if the 2000 over the SR5 is worth it (locker but smaller rear end). There are people that love their TRD OR but I don't know if all the electronics example: VSC, ATRAC are going to piss me off. Then agian I can save 2000 and put it towards modding an SR5. I'm really only getting the TRD for the E locker."

So how do TRD owners feel about the capabilities, and do SR5 owners ever wish they had the TRD OR?

Respectfully, I wasn't complaining nor going against my self I was pointing out the pro's and cons of a TRD OR rear dif and how I feel. TRD's come with different seats, electronics, wheels, supsension, and badges compaired to the SR5. I would take a standard SR5 minus all the other shit I just listed plus an E-Locker if it was an option. I dont want to beat a :deadhorse: and the title of the thread is How do you feel about your TRD OR. So how do you feel about your TRD OR?

    I like it.

    it hauls stuff.

    no theatrics, it just works.

it goes offroad with as much or more prowess
than my 99 4runner [*if you ignore the entry/departure/breakover reduction]

nothing bullshit hangs underneath, so it can take a good scraping without breaking
stuff, only removing paint and bolt shoulders [*tow package, that 7pin connector
is the only shit part on the entire truck due to location

Id get the TRD over the SR5 if its only 2k more. You will spend that much down the road if you add a ARB locker later on.

ABS and im pretty sure VSC is disabled when you activate your locker. you can also mod it to deactivate them anytime you want so having those as options on the truck should not deter you.

I was looking into that earlier on how to disable some of the electronic features. The one thing that really bothered me was the VSC and, I thought that only came on the TRD OR. Now that I know that is standard on all models, the electronics on the OR is not going to turn me away.

As far as the lockers go I want it to be locked to begin with but If I do decide to go heavy duty (gears and 35's) down the road I don't want the size of the rear end on the OR to be an issue.

if kept stock the trd off road is the best. the locker and atrac is a great feature to have in a semi modded tacoma. but if you are really going to be wheeling hardcore and modding the truck for that its better off to just get the sr5.

i personally like the off road package all around interior and exterior wise and the electronic features are pretty neat if used right. but the suspension sucks ass.

Lol that is the kicker. It's going to be wheeled buyt nothing extreme where I'm gong to be destroying stuff ( I say that now) and I don't want to regret the TRD over an SR5.

This. The 3-leaf pack pisses me off. But other than than it's been more than capable for what I put it through. And I don't baby it by any means.

the "8" and "8.4" have the same size ring gear, both being 8 inches. The axle is the same too. The diffs are slightly different, with the "8.4" having a slight stronger design. The only people that are breaking their OR Lockers and diffs are the ones that are heavily abusing their trucks.

I like my OR, heard the complaints and fears about the smaller rear diff but i dont abuse my truck when i wheel either. Eventually i will lock the front and regear too. If i break it i'll worry about it then and go from there...

I haven't driven an SR5, but I have driven a TRD Sport while my Off-Road was at the dealer.

The ONLY gripe I have compared to the Sport is the brakes. They are super touchy (you will find more than one thread about it) and it's way too easy to lock them up. Maybe it's just my BFG ATs, but sometimes driving it in traffic is a little bit white-knuckle.

I'm happy with mine but I did swap out the suspension. I think the seats and traction control systems are worth it and if you're not going to go nuts on the wheeling it saves you headache of modding. More than capable and strong enough for most "normal" users.

The traction systems have not pissed me off yet. VSC came on once and then I turned it off.

Can you cite one of these threads? My brakes are touchy but I assumed it was a common thing on tacos. I've gotten used to it though.

OP , if you are concerned about the electronic gizmos you can always do an ABS bypass switch and that will kill it all when you choose and leave it on when you choose
