    My brother and I have arguing bout which moter is stronger. i say the 3.4 is and he says the 4.0 is, so what do yall think?

    Infamous 3.4!

    Edit: in sense of simplicity( non interference, no vvti), and longevity. Puts down plenty of power for me,
    obviously 4.0 is more powerful..

    stronger as in HP or stronger as in durability?
    i have little experience with the 4.0, we own a 1996 4runner with the 3.4 and it has 390,xxx miles on it and it's still going strong.

    Power = 4.0
    Longevity = 3.4 although the 4.0 isn't a bad motor it just hasn't been out long enough in my opinion to see how far they can really go.

    3.4 = 190hp/220ft. lbs torque

    I'm gonna guess the 4.0 is the stronger motor...

    well since guys are boosting the 4.0 to the mid 400's range in the ponies, i would say 4.0.

    I'd say the 3.4 is going to win in overall durability and longevity but obviously the 4.0 is more powerful. it's bigger. that's just something that can't be debated.

    i did a quick search because i couldnt even believe the 3.4 got any votes, and found that the 2004 DC (didnt say long bed or short) 4x4 boast a 19.5 power to weight ratio and a 2013 DCLB 4x4 a mere 17.9. this is shocking to me actually i new that the 2nd gen was bigger and a little heavier but couldnt of imagined it being out done in anyway really by its predecessor.
