The collective ADD factor in this thread is quite telling. I mean, this thread has effectively fulfilled Godwins Law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law). Ya'll A: Need Jesus. And B: Need Ritalin.

In all seriousness the big reveal is that Americans are not as free as they would like to believe they are. Ignorance of this by claiming "I do nothing illegal, therefore I have nothing to worry about", is a slap in the face to anyone who has ever taken an oath to uphold the constitution and maintain the integrity of this country.

Edward Snowden deserves to be punished for his dissemination of classified information. However, it should be for the method in which he did it, not due to the harm it has caused the US. Clearly FISA and the FISC blurs the lines of what is ethically and constitutionally permissible. All parties involved should be held to the highest levels of scrutiny.

There are methods of whistle blowing (And protecting yourself from retribution) without leaking classified information, potentially resulting in collateral damage and death to US Gov employees and it's citizens abroad. The information should have been declassified upon a Classified Senate Intelligence Services Committee investigation determining that the FISC is operating outside the constraints of due process.

Also, I consider Bruce Schneiers' Opinion on this (http://www.schneier.com/) to be smacking the nail on the head. Repeatedly, with the large hammer of obvious course of action.

Anywho a rep for the DHS oversight committee was at a DHS facility and found IRS officials practicing with AR-15s, not DHS officials.

But it sounds like it hasn't been confirmed -- just a congressman saying he saw it.

    There is this:

Although I am not sure what this has to do with the NSA Surveillance...

Also, holy crap FOX News's formatting is atrocious. That is easily the ugliest site I think I have ever seen. And you can read it from space.

There's a bit of a difference between referring to a political figure "as Hitler" because you disagree with him, and pointing out that the actions of a government agency closely parallel the actions taken by the German government under direction of Hitler.
Godwin's Law applies to the inappropriate use of comparisons and analogies.

Those who forget history are bound to repeat it.

no they're not, it's just that the overwhelming majority of the citizens of the united states do not have the security clearances required to discuss what is going on

just because the government is not telling you something doesn't mean they're lying

if you want to learn what's really going on, i suggest you go get your ts and start working in the intelligence community, because those are the people that actually know what is happening and can debunk a TON of what is being said about this entire issue, including a ton of what this Snowden tool is talking about

an analogy for this situation: someone played football at a community college and is trying to tell people what it's like to play in the NFL. same sport, completely different level of play. working for a contractor that works with the NSA is not the same as working for the NSA.

My Father used to tell me, "not telling me is the same as lying"

Also yes there are a lot of inconsistencies between what is reported and what is in fact happening.

But even getting the meta data is still and iffy issue. I forget who recently said this "just because its law, doesn't make it right" referring to the Patriot Act and a few of the other recent related laws/acts.

Yep, & the gov. would never lie to go to war, the world is flat, & Santa Clause is alive & well in the north pole.. Sorry dude, tho' theres some truth in what you say I've been alive long enough & have seen enough to know that theres a lot of kool aid drinking going on.. As far as the whistle blower goes what else did he do besides "out" some rather seedy goings on by our gov. to its citizenry (us)

Someone else brought up the conspiracy thing & how its coming to pass, yesterdays fiction is todays facts it seems

You're not doing anything without a FS Poly. But that's pretty funny.
